Objective: To evaluate and compare the outcomes of patients with localised renal cell carcinoma (RCC) with and without sarcomatoid features and the impact of this on cancer recurrence and survival.

Material And Methods: The Canadian Kidney Cancer information system database was used to identify patients diagnosed with localised RCC between January 2011 and December 2022. Patients with pT1-T3, n Nx-N0N1, M0 stage and documented sarcomatoid status were included.

This article equips Canadian urologists with the latest advancements in focal therapy (FT) principles and outcomes while providing an overview of its current landscape in Canada, including challenges and future directions. We conducted a nonsystematic review of the literature on FT in urology and prostate cancer (PCa), focusing on Canadian-led studies. Articles were identified using PubMed, MEDLINE, and Google Scholar and selected based on relevance and originality.

Objective: To evaluate MRI-based measurements of androgen-sensitive perineal/pelvic muscles in men with prostate cancer before and after androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) as a novel imaging marker for end-organ effects of hypogonadism. Diagnosing hypogonadism or testosterone deficiency (TD) requires both low serum testosterone and clinical symptoms, such as erectile dysfunction and reduced libido. However, the non-specific nature of many TD symptoms makes it challenging to initiate therapy.

Current surgical approaches for renal malignancies primarily rely on qualitative factors such as patient preferences, surgeon experience, and hospital capabilities. Applying a quantitative method for consistent and reliable assessment of renal lesions would significantly enhance surgical decision-making and facilitate data comparison. Nephrometry scoring (NS) systems systematically evaluate and describe renal tumors based on their anatomical features.

Background And Objective: Focal therapy (FT) is increasingly recognized as a promising approach for managing localized prostate cancer (PCa), notably reducing treatment-related morbidities. However, post-treatment anatomical changes present significant challenges for surveillance using current imaging techniques. This study aimed to evaluate the inter-reader agreement and efficacy of the Prostate Imaging after Focal Ablation (PI-FAB) scoring system in detecting clinically significant prostate cancer (csPCa) on post-FT multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging (mpMRI).

Background: Distinct molecular subtypes of muscle-invasive bladder cancer (MIBC) have been identified via gene expression profiling.

Objective: We investigated the feasibility of a simple immunohistochemistry (IHC)-based Lund subtyping method and the association of MIBC subtypes with oncological outcomes for patients after bladder-preserving radiation-based therapy.

Design Setting And Participants: Transurethral resected tumor tissues from 104 patients treated with radiation-based therapy were sampled on tissue microarray blocks.

Introduction: We sought to assess the incidence and risk factors for stone development in patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) on hemodialysis (HD).

Methods: Medical records of patients receiving HD between 2007 and 2017 were retrospectively reviewed. Patients who had been on HD for at least three months and had imaging studies (computed tomography [CT] scans or ultrasound [US]) pre- and post-initiation of HD were included.

Introduction: We examined the effect of combined vitamin D and calcium supplementation (VDCS) on urinary calcium excretion and de novo stone formation in vitamin D inadequate (VDI) urolithiasis patients.

Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the data of VDI patients (serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D <75 nmol/L) followed at a tertiary stone centre between September 2009 and December 2014. VDI patients with history of urolithiasis, who were placed on VDCS for abnormal bone mineral density or hyperoxaluria, were included.
