Two figure-8 sensors, differently oriented but collocated, can facilitate azimuth- elevation two-dimensional beamforming that is invariant of the frequency spectrum of the incident signal. For such a pair of identical figure-8 sensors of any arbitrary directivity-order, their spatial matched filter beam-pattern is characterized analytically here in this paper. This paper shows that the beamformer would suffer a high pointing bias if the figure-8 sensors' directivity-order exceeds one.

Article Synopsis
  • The Proper Orthogonal Decomposition (POD) technique is used for reducing complex data (like DNA microarray samples) into simpler forms that still capture essential features.
  • This method generates a set of basis elements, or patterns, that can effectively represent the original data with minimal information loss, making it useful in identifying characteristics of cancer.
  • The study specifically demonstrates the application of POD in detecting liver and bladder cancers using DNA microarray data from the Stanford Microarray Database, showing its potential for broader use in disease detection.
