Impact of an Orthopedic-Delivered 'One-Stop' Clinic for Ambulatory Trauma on Emergency Department and Fracture Clinic Pressures During the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Introduction:  In March 2020, the World Health Organization declared the severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) (coronavirus disease, COVID-19) outbreak as a pandemic. In response to the rising number of coronavirus cases in the United Kingdom, the British Orthopaedic Association (BOA) issued a series of emergency guidelines for the management of trauma and orthopedic patients during the pandemic. In line with this guidance, the orthopedic team at the Worcestershire Royal Hospital set up a 'one-stop-shop' minor injuries unit (MIU).

Apert syndrome: Be aware of the 'dodgy' hip!

Apert syndrome is a rare congenital disorder characterised by craniosynostosis, midface hypoplasia and syndactyly of hands and feet. Here we present a case of a 44-year-old woman, with a genetic diagnosis of Apert syndrome from birth, who presented with symptomatic left-sided hip osteoarthritis secondary to femoral abnormalities. She proceeded to have a total hip replacement.

The importance of early diagnosis in spontaneous osteonecrosis of the knee - A case series with six year follow-up.

Background: Spontaneous osteonecrosis of the knee has an unknown aetiology. Management options include conservative, surgical and pharmacological interventions. The aim of this study was to report the experience of the authors in conservative management of SONK using non-operative measures by analysing the functional outcome and need for surgical intervention.

Delayed fixation of displaced bilateral, atraumatic, femoral neck fractures in a patient with pregnancy related osteomalacia.

We present the case of a woman diagnosed with simultaneous displaced intracapsular femoral neck fractures following the birth of her second child. No traumatic event was identified. Diagnosis was delayed as the cause of her pain was thought to be non-skeletal in origin.

Patient compliance with extended low molecular weight heparin injections following hip and knee arthroplasty.

The use of extended duration thromboprophylaxis following hip and knee arthroplasty is becoming widespread. The aim of our study was to determine patient compliance with extended duration thromboprophylaxis using low molecular weight (LMWH) injections following hip and knee arthroplasty. 42 consecutive patients undergoing hip and knee arthroplasty were prospectively contacted during their fifth post operative week.

Warfarinized Patients with Proximal Femoral Fractures: Survey of UK Clinical Practice.

Introduction: In an aging population, anticoagulation in patients with musculoskeletal injuries is increasingly prevalent. The North American literature indicates an absence of consensus concerning the most appropriate management for this group. We aim to test the hypothesis that there is a lack of consensus in the UK regarding the perioperative management of patients with hip fractures on long-term warfarin therapy.

Ponseti treatment in the management of clubfoot deformity - a continuing role for paediatric orthopaedic services in secondary care centres.

Introduction: The Ponseti technique is a well-proven way of managing paediatric clubfoot deformity. We describe a management set-up which spreads the care between secondary and tertiary care with no loss of quality.

Patients And Methods: In our audit of the first 2 years of Ponseti casting in the treatment of idiopathic congenital talipes equinovarus (CTEV, clubfoot) deformity, we identified 77 feet having been treated in 50 patients.
