Background: The transfusion threshold for low hemoglobin (Hgb) in geriatric patients with hip fractures is widely debated. In certain populations, low Hgb is associated with poor outcomes. Our objective was to evaluate the relationship between lowest Hgb and outcome to identify the Hgb threshold where poor outcomes were more prevalent.

The diagnosis of fat embolism syndrome (FES) may present with a constellation of symptoms and continues to be a diagnosis of exclusion. Fat embolism syndrome is a poorly understood syndrome, which is typically associated with orthopedic trauma, most commonly with long bone fractures. Understanding the presentation of FES is essential to provide timely and appropriate interventions and to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
