Objective: To assess the overall survival (OS) of internal cerebrospinal fluid shunt (ICSFS) in the adult population.

Methods: MEDLINE database was searched from 2000 to 2023 to identify studies reporting on ICSFS OS. Only articles reporting on adult ICSFS OS by a Kaplan-Meier (KM) OS curve were included.

Article Synopsis
  • - This study analyzed patient survival rates following the surgical removal of high-grade gliomas (HGG) and identified key factors influencing outcomes using data from a national health database in France.
  • - A total of 1,438 patients were examined, revealing a median overall survival (OS) of 1.69 years, with one-year, two-year, and five-year survival rates at 78.5%, 40.3%, and 11.8%, respectively.
  • - Factors positively affecting survival included being female, younger age at surgery, completing over six months of chemoradiotherapy with temozolomide, and undergoing redo surgery for recurrence.

Purpose: Meningeal solitary fibrous tumour (SFT) and haemangiopericytoma (HPC) are uncommon tumours that have been merged into a single entity in the last 2021 WHO Classification of Tumors of the Central Nervous System. To describe the epidemiology of SFT/HPC operated in France and, to assess their incidence.

Methods: We processed the French Brain Tumour Database (FBTDB) to conduct a nationwide population-based study of all histopathologically confirmed SFT/HPC between 2006 and 2015.

Background And Objectives: Meningioma is one of the most common neoplasm of the central nervous system. To describe the epidemiology of meningioma operated in France and, to assess grading and histopathological variability among the different neurosurgical centres.

Methods: We processed the French Brain Tumour Database (FBTDB) to conduct a nationwide population-based study of all histopathologically confirmed meningiomas between 2006 and 2015.

Purpose: Widespread use of carmustine wafers (CW) to treat high-grade gliomas (HGG) has been limited by uncertainties about its efficacy. To assess the outcome of patients after recurrent HGG surgery with CW implantation and, search for associated factors.

Methods: We processed the French medico-administrative national database between 2008 and 2019 to retrieve ad hoc cases.

Background: Widespread use of carmustine wafers (CWs) to treat high-grade gliomas (HGG) has been limited by uncertainties about their efficacy. We sought to assess the outcome of patients after newly diagnosed HGG surgery with CW implantation and search for associated factors.

Methods: We processed the French medico-administrative national database between 2008 and 2019 to retrieve ad hoc cases.

Background: Hydrocephalus is a common neurological condition that usually requires internal ventricular cerebrospinal fluid shunt (IVCSFS). The reported infection rate (IR) varies greatly from below 1% up to over 50%, but no meta-analysis to assess the overall IR has ever been performed.

Objective: To determine the IVCSFS overall IR in the adult population and search for associated factors.

Article Synopsis
  • The study analyzed survival rates after meningioma surgery from a French medical database, focusing on a large patient group over a 10-year period.
  • A total of 28,778 patients were assessed, with a high five-year relative survival rate of 96.2%, although there was a notable excess risk of mortality, particularly in males and those with certain health conditions.
  • Factors affecting survival included gender, age at surgery, tumor characteristics, previous surgeries, and treatments like radiotherapy, indicating that comprehensive patient profiles are crucial for understanding outcomes.

Objective: Reported rates of failures of internal cerebrospinal fluid shunt (ICSFS) vary greatly from less than 5% to more than 50% and no meta-analysis to assess the overall prevalence has been performed. We estimated the failure rate after ICSFS insertion and searched for associated factors.

Methods: Six databases were searched from January 1990 to February 2022.

A 36 year old woman was referred to our department for symptomatic lumbar spinal arachnoiditis following an epidural anaesthesia for childbirth. She did not had other known causative factor and she was free of any neurological symptoms before. She rapidly developed lower limbs impairment by compressing intradural lumbar collections and arachnoiditis requiring surgical decompression and subsequently internal cerebrospinal fluid shunting for acute hydrocephalus.

Background: No large-scale study evaluating the usefulness of tamoxifen after meningioma surgery has been undertaken.

Methods: We processed the French Système National des Données de Santé (SNDS) database using an algorithm combining the type of surgical procedure and the International Classification of Diseases to retrieve cases of meningiomas operated between 2007 and 2017. Survival analyses were performed using a matched cohort study.
