Diagnosis of diffuse and localized arrhythmogenic right ventricular dysplasia by gated blood-pool SPECT.

Unlabelled: This study aimed to assess the ability of global and local systolic parameters measured with gated blood-pool SPECT (GBPS) to diagnose and characterize the severity of diffuse or localized arrhythmogenic right ventricular dysplasia (ARVD).

Methods: Fifty-nine subjects with symptomatic ventricular arrhythmias were prospectively included in the study. With the International Society and Federation of Cardiology criteria for ARVD as a gold standard, these subjects were classified as subjects without ARVD (21 control subjects) and patients with localized ARVD (16 patients) or diffuse ARVD (22 patients).

Automatic generation of noise-free time-activity curve with gated blood-pool emission tomography using deformation of a reference curve.

This paper describes a new method for assessing clinical parameters from a noisy regional time-activity curve (TAC) in tomographic gated blood-pool ventriculography. This method is based on a priori knowledge on the shape of a TAC, and shape approximation. The rejection method was used to generate different random Poisson deviates, covering standard count levels, of six representative TACs in order to test and compare the proposed method with harmonic and multiharmonic reconstruction methods.

Major increase in brain natriuretic peptide indicates right ventricular systolic dysfunction in patients with heart failure.

This study sought to investigate whether the presence of right ventricular systolic dysfunction with pre-existing left ventricular systolic dysfunction is associated with higher plasma brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) levels, compared with patients with isolated left ventricular dysfunction. Eighty-five patients referred for evaluation of isotopic ventricular function were prospectively included in the study. Left (LVEF) and right (RVEF) ventricular ejection fractions were evaluated by gated blood pool scintigraphy and compared with plasma BNP levels.
