Patients with cardiogenic shock on veno-arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VA-ECMO) frequently develop left ventricular (LV) distension and pulmonary edema due to an increased LV afterload. A balloon atrial septostomy (BAS) is a technique used to alleviate LV pressure and facilitate left atrial decompression. While primarily performed in pediatric populations, this procedure's feasibility in adult patients is less studied.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA recent study assessed the ability of 4 feed evaluation models to predict milk protein yield (MPY) in a commercial context, with data of 541 cows from 23 dairy herds in the province of Québec, Canada. However, the recently published Nutrient Requirements of Dairy Cattle from the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM, 2021) was not released at that time. Thus, the current study evaluated NASEM using the same dataset.

Predictive simulations may support coaches, but only a few athlete morphologies have been simulated yet. It is assumed that the optimal acrobatic techniques are somehow generalisable across athletes.

Police body-worn cameras (BWC) have been lauded for their potential to increase transparency and accountability by documenting officers' actions and interactions with citizens. However, despite their widespread use in recent years, several law enforcement agencies have been hesitant to adopt this technology because of privacy concerns. This article explores the views of police officers and citizens from the Canadian province of Quebec towards the use of BWCs.

On 50 commercial dairy farms in Quebec, Canada, ATP luminometry measurements (in relative light units, RLU) were obtained using the direct swabbing technique with Hygiena UltraSnap swabs and a liquid rinsing technique with the same swab for automatic milk feeders (AMF), bottles, buckets, esophageal tube feeders (ET), milk replacer, nipples, and water. During this visit, environmental factors (including temperature, air draft, humidity, ammonia, and bacterial count) were collected, and a clinical examination (including respiratory score and fecal score) was performed for all preweaning calves present at the farm.

Design: A retrospective cohort study using electronic medical record (EMR) data from 138 IRFs across 34 states and Puerto Rico.
Setting: N/A.
Sarcoidosis and systemic sclerosis are two inflammatory multisystemic disorders of unknown etiology that may be life-threatening especially when there is cardiac involvement. Both diseases may coexist, however, there are very few case reports of patients with both cardiac sarcoidosis and systemic sclerosis in the literature. We report the case of a 72-year-old female who was initially referred for dyspnea.

In addition, contamination of feeding equipment for preweaning calves was described using ATP (expressed as relative light units, RLU), visual assessment, and bacteriological analysis. A questionnaire was administered on 50 commercial dairy farms in Quebec, Canada, regarding the self-reported cleaning protocol used for feeding equipment of preweaning calves.

A total of 7 Québec commercial dairy herds were selected conveniently. Following visual hygiene scoring, the cleanliness of every available piece of feeding equipment was assessed using direct surface swabbing for buckets and nipples with Hygiena UltraSnap swabs.

The burden of ventricular arrhythmias (VA) and the role of a prophylactic implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) are not well documented in this population. We aim to assess the usefulness of ICD implantation in a T-DCM cohort.

In this context, accurate information as well as misinformation and disinformation about the links between nutrition and COVID-19 have circulated on Twitter since the onset of the pandemic.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to compare tweets on nutrition in times of COVID-19 published by 2 groups, namely, a preidentified group of dietitians and a group of general users of Twitter, in terms of themes, content accuracy, use of behavior change factors, and user engagement, in order to contrast their information sharing behaviors during the pandemic.
Background: Cancers, and specifically lymphomas, are one of the main causes of morbidity and mortality after heart transplantation. Sixteen percent of heart transplant recipients develop cancer within 5 years and lymphomas represent 10% of these patients.
Case Summary: We report the case of an Epstein-Barr Virus-induced primary cardiac lymphoma on the graft.
When estimating full-body motion from experimental data, inverse kinematics followed by inverse dynamics does not guarantee dynamical consistency of the resulting motion, especially in movements where the trajectory depends heavily on the initial state, such as in free-fall. Our objective was to estimate dynamically consistent joint kinematics and kinetics of complex aerial movements. A 42-degrees-of-freedom model with 95 markers was personalised for five elite trampoline athletes performing various backward and forward twisting somersaults.

Since planning the arm and hip movements to twist fast is unintuitive, optimal control appears as a powerful and risk-free tool. To our knowledge, predictive simulations of human motion did not include self-collision avoidance constraints resulting potentially in unrealistic solutions.

Lead extraction is performed using specialized tools including locking stylets, mechanical or rotating sheaths, femoral snares or laser sheaths. The most feared complications associated with lead extraction are bleeding, vascular tear, cardiac avulsion and tamponade.

Dairy cows could benefit from an increased digestibility of alfalfa fibers, or from a better match between nitrogen and energy supplies in the rumen. Alfalfa cultivars with improved fiber digestibility represent an opportunity to increase milk production, but no independent studies have tested these cultivars under the agroclimatic conditions of Canada.
