Those algorithms are applied to passive data for which the signal corresponding to each emitter-receiver couple is recovered as a result of the cross correlation of the ambient noise measured simultaneously by the two sensors. The transition to passive imaging allows the use of lighter sensors that are unable to emit ultrasonic waves, such as fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs) sensors on optical fibers, which are used in this study.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFThe relation between vascular sympathetic tone and the amplitude of arterial pressure (AP) Mayer waves was examined by analyzing 60-min recordings of AP and renal sympathetic nerve activity (RSNA) obtained in conscious rats before and after lipopolysaccharide administration, which results in strong sympathoexcitation. Mayer waves completely disappeared together with accompanying oscillations of RSNA. Meanwhile, the gain of the sympathetic baroreceptor reflex was increased, thus suggesting that abolition of Mayer waves resulted from the previously reported reduction of vascular reactivity to α-adrenoceptor stimulation.

Guided elastic waves are often studied as an effective solution for Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) systems of plate-like structures thanks to the capacity to propagate on large distances. In typical applications such as monitoring delaminations in aircraft fuselage, a network made of piezoelectric transducer (PZT) is used to emit and receive such waves in the structure. Fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensors on optical fibers are a promising alternative to PZT for guided waves measurements in practical applications due to the capacity for dense multiplexing and robustness with respect to the environment.

To compare the most commonly used methods in rats, telemetric recordings of the electrocardiogram were performed in normotensive WKY rats, and in groups of spontaneously hypertensive (SHR) rats that were either untreated or chronically treated with the cholinesterase inhibitor, pyridostigmine, to enhance vagal tone. This study examined whether chronic administration of pyridostigmine, a reversible cholinesterase inhibitor, would exacerbate episodes of spontaneous atrial tachyarrhythmia (AT) in conscious, aging, spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHRs). Telemetric recordings of electrocardiogram (ECG, n = 5) and ECG/arterial pressure (n = 3) were performed in male 49-week old SHRs. After a 1-week period of continuous recording under baseline conditions, rats were implanted with osmotic minipumps that delivered pyridostigmine (15 mg/kg/day subcutaneously) for either 1 (n = 8) or 3 (n = 5) weeks.

Methods: Between 1984 and 2004, 142 patients were eligible for the study. Total body irradiation (TBI) was carried out in 85% of the patients and T-cell depletion in 84%.
Cross-spectral analysis using the short-time Fourier transform (STFT) allows estimating the transfer function between spontaneous fluctuations of arterial pressure (AP) and renal sympathetic nerve activity (RSNA) at the heart rate (HR) frequency, which provides an index of sympathetic baroreflex sensitivity (sBRS) in rats. The method, however, cannot reliably compute more than one value per min. The goal of the present study was to achieve a better temporal resolution by using advanced methods.

The radiation of Lamb waves by an axisymmetric source on the surface of an anisotropic plate is investigated. An analytical expression of the Green's function, valid in the far field domain, is derived. This approximation shows that the anisotropy of the propagation medium induces a focusing of Lamb modes in some directions, which correspond to minima of the slowness.
