Background: Physical activity (PA) intentions may predict future PA engagement, such that when intentions for PA are strong, an individual may be more likely to engage in PA compared with when intentions for PA are weak. However, intentions do not always translate into behavior, a phenomenon known as the intention-behavior gap. Individual differences in exercise preference (predisposition for high-intensity exercise) and tolerance (ability to continue exercising at higher intensity) may explain this gap.

Oligodendrocyte maturation impacts the cell death mechanisms that occur in degenerative conditions, but it is unclear if and how the cell death machinery changes as OPCs transition into oligodendrocytes.

Background: Cancer survivors are at increased risk for cardiometabolic comorbidities following cancer treatment, which may be further exacerbated by cannabis and alcohol use. We aimed to examine the direct relationships of cannabis, alcohol, and the co-use of both substances with cardiometabolic risk factors and to explore disparities by race/ethnicity and sex.

It is increasingly clear that social environments have profound impacts on the life histories of 'non-social' animals. However, it is not yet well known how species with varying degrees of sociality respond to different social contexts and whether such effects are sex-specific. To survey the extent to which social environments specifically affect lifespan and ageing in non-social species, we performed a systematic literature review, focusing on invertebrates but excluding eusocial insects.

Neutron imaging of the deuterium-tritium tamping gas volume in an inertial confinement fusion hohlraum.

To benchmark the accuracy of the models and improve the predictive capability of future experiments, the National Ignition Facility requires measurements of the physical conditions inside inertial confinement fusion hohlraums. The ion temperature and bulk motion velocity of the gas-filled regions of the hohlraum can be obtained by replacing the helium tamping gas in the hohlraum with deuterium-tritium (DT) gas and measuring the Doppler broadening and Doppler shift of the neutron spectrum produced by nuclear reactions in the hohlraum. To understand the spatial distribution of the neutron production inside the hohlraum, we have developed a new penumbral neutron imager with a 12 mm diameter field of view using a simple tungsten alloy spindle.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to provide updated data on oncologic outcomes following definitive surgical treatment of soft tissue sarcoma of the hand in a cohort of 109 patients, as well as to characterize risk factors for poor oncologic and functional outcomes.

Methods: We analyzed data from 109 consecutive patients who had definitive surgical treatment for soft tissue sarcoma of the hand performed between 1996 and 2019 by a single surgeon at a sarcoma center. Primary outcomes included functional outcome (assessed by Musculoskeletal Tumor Society scores), disease-free survival (DFS), and overall survival (OS).

Global use of pneumococcal conjugate vaccines (PCVs) with increasingly broader serotype coverage has helped to reduce the burden of pneumococcal disease in children and adults. In clinical studies comparing PCVs, higher-valency PCVs have met noninferiority criteria (based on immunoglobulin G geometric mean concentrations and response rates) for most shared serotypes. A numeric trend of declining immunogenicity against shared serotypes with higher-valency PCVs has also been observed; however, the clinical relevance is uncertain, warranting additional research to evaluate the effectiveness of new vaccines.

The impact of low-mode symmetry on inertial fusion energy output in the burning plasma state.

Indirect Drive Inertial Confinement Fusion Experiments on the National Ignition Facility (NIF) have achieved a burning plasma state with neutron yields exceeding 170 kJ, roughly 3 times the prior record and a necessary stage for igniting plasmas. The results are achieved despite multiple sources of degradations that lead to high variability in performance. Results shown here, for the first time, include an empirical correction factor for mode-2 asymmetry in the burning plasma regime in addition to previously determined corrections for radiative mix and mode-1.

In this study, metagenomic sequence data was used to investigate the phytoplasma taxonomic diversity in vegetable-growing regions across Australia. Metagenomic sequencing was performed on 195 phytoplasma-positive samples, originating either from historic collections (=46) or during collection efforts between January 2015 and June 2022 (=149). The sampled hosts were classified as crop (=155), weed (=24), ornamental (=7), native plant (=6), and insect (=3) species.
