Article Synopsis
  • - The study examined if elderly patients (over 75) need a different dosage of intravenous lidocaine during general anesthesia, with research involving 76 patients across three age groups.
  • - Lidocaine was given at 1.5 mg/kg for younger groups and 1.0 mg/kg for those 75 and older, with plasma samples collected to assess drug levels.
  • - Results showed no major differences in how the drug was processed by different age groups, concluding that dose adjustments aren't needed for patients under 86 during anesthesia.

Background: It is uncertain how COVID-19 outbreak influences the hepatitis B epidemics. This study aims to evaluate the effects on hepatitis B owing to the COVID-19 outbreak and forecast the hepatitis B epidemiological trend in mainland China to speed up the course of the "End viral hepatitis Strategy".

Methods: We estimated the causal impacts and created a forecast through adopting monthly notifications of hepatitis B each year from 2005 to 2020 in mainland China using the Bayesian structural time series (BSTS) method.

To break through the simplification of three-dimensional printing (3DP) materials and realize the application of long-persistent phosphors in more fields, polylactic acid doped with CaBOCl: Eu, Dy was prepared in this study. The structure of the mixtures was analyzed and determined by infrared spectroscopy. The luminescence properties of phosphors and the composites were studied by fluorescence spectra and afterglow decay curve measurements.

Background: Quality of life (QoL) of older adults has become a pivotal concern of the public and health system. Previous studies found that both cognitive decline and neuropsychiatric symptoms (NPS) can affect QoL in older adults. However, it remains unclear how these symptoms are related to each other and impact on QoL.

Although levetiracetam (LEV) has favorable linear pharmacokinetic properties, therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) is necessary for pregnant women with epilepsy. This study aims to build a simple, reliable, and sensitive ultra-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS) method for determining LEV concentrations in plasma and saliva samples, to support the routine TDM of LEV in Chinese pregnant women with epilepsy. The stable isotope-labeled LEV-d was used as the internal standard.

Article Synopsis
  • Sufentanil is commonly used to manage hemodynamic responses during tracheal intubation, and this study investigates whether combining it with intravenous lidocaine can reduce the necessary dose of sufentanil in obese patients.
  • This randomized study involved 50 obese patients undergoing bariatric surgery, comparing a lidocaine group to a saline group, with anesthesia monitored and adjusted using a specific method to determine the effective concentration of sufentanil needed for successful intubation.
  • Results showed that patients receiving lidocaine had a significantly lower effective concentration (EC50) of sufentanil compared to those receiving saline, indicating that lidocaine can enhance the efficacy of sufentanil while maintaining stable hemodynamics during the procedure.

Our previous study demonstrated that based on growth performance and feed utilization, cottonseed meal (CSM) could substitute 20% fishmeal (FM) without adverse effect on golden pompano (). Muscle deposition was also an important indicator to evaluate the efficiency of alternative protein sources. Therefore, the present study was conducted to explore the changes of physiobiochemical and nutrient metabolism in muscle after FM replaced by CSM.

Lidocaine, widely used as a local anesthetic, has anti-inflammatory and inhibitory effects on tumor recurrence and metastasis. To investigate the pharmacokinetics of lidocaine in liver cancer patients undergoing laparoscopic hepatectomy, a fast and sensitive analytical technique was developed. The method was adequately validated with ultra-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS) to simultaneously determine the concentration of lidocaine and its metabolites in plasma.
