Wastewater from industrial chemical synthesis, agricultural activities, and domestic sewage usually contains high levels of nitrogenous compounds, endangering environmental health and human well-being. Nitrogenous wastewater electrolysis (NWE), despite its ecological merits, is inherently hampered by sluggish kinetics. To improve process efficiency, lower costs, and avoid cross-contamination between the anode and cathode, a range of bifunctional transition-metal catalysts capable of efficient operation at both electrodes have recently been developed.

This study aimed to observe the mechanism of hydrogen (H) in a lung transplantation model simulated by pulmonary microvascular endothelial cells (PMVECs), which were divided into 5 groups. The blank group was the normal PMVECs. During cold ischemia period, PMVECs in the control, O, or H groups were aerated with no gas, O, or 3% H, and 3% H after transfected with a small interfering RNA targeting Nrf2 in the H+si-Nrf2 group.

Tip-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (TERS) has been extensively employed to investigate the light-matter interaction at the nanoscale. However, the current TERS strategies lack the ability to excite the low-background inhomogeneous electromagnetic field with significant enhancement of electric field, electric field gradient, and optomagnetic field, simultaneously. To overcome this, we developed a fiber vector light-field-based TERS strategy aimed at exploring the multipole Raman scattering processes of molecules.

Gel electrolytes have emerged as a promising solution for enhancing the performance of zinc-ion batteries (ZIBs), particularly in flexible devices. However, they face challenges such as low-temperature inefficiency, constrained ionic conductivity, and poor mechanical strength. To address these issues, this study presents a novel PAMCD gel electrolyte with tunable freezing point and mechanical properties for ZIBs, blending the high ionic conductivity of polyacrylamide with the anion interaction capability of β-cyclodextrin.

Article Synopsis
  • Cardiovascular disease is the top cause of death for women with breast cancer, and this study explored how regular aerobic exercise can help reduce cardiovascular risks for these patients.
  • The research reviewed 46 studies, concluding that aerobic exercise significantly lowered the chance of CVD and coronary artery disease events while also improving key health metrics like heart function and body composition.
  • Despite positive findings, the overall certainty of the evidence is low to very low, indicating more research is needed to strengthen the conclusions drawn from the data.

Compared to conventional lasers limited to generating static modes, mode-switchable lasers equipped with adjustable optics significantly enhance the flexibility and versatility of coherent light sources. However, most current approaches to achieving mode-switchable lasers depend on conventional, i.e.

Background: Triglyceride (TG) and its related metabolic indices are recognized as important biomarker gauging cardiovascular diseases. This study aimed to explore the association between multiple TG-derived metabolic indices including the atherogenic index of plasma (AIP), triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index, triglyceride glucose-body mass index (TyG-BMI) and cardiovascular outcomes to identify valuable predictors for cardiovascular prognosis in patients with type 2 diabetes (T2DM) and coronary heart disease (CHD).

Methods: Data of 1034 patients with T2DM and CHD from China-Japan Friendship Hospital between January 2019 and March 2022 were collected and analyzed.

Androgen dependence is a key feature of prostate cancer, and androgen deprivation is effective in treating prostate cancer. However, the disease often worsens and develops into castration-resistant prostate cancer after short-term control. The current study aimed to explore the mechanism of the synergistic action of 18β-glycyrrhetinic acid (18β-GA) and enzalutamide (ENZ) against prostate cancer.

Background: With the development of minimally invasive surgical techniques, the use of laparoscopic D2 radical surgery for the treatment of locally advanced gastric cancer (GC) has gradually increased. However, the effect of this procedure on survival and prognosis remains controversial. This study evaluated the survival and prognosis of patients receiving laparoscopic D2 radical resection for the treatment of locally advanced GC to provide more reliable clinical evidence, guide clinical decision-making, optimize treatment strategies, and improve the survival rate and quality of life of patients.

The design and fabrication of highly efficient electrocatalysts are crucial for reducing energy consumption, improving hydrogen production rates, and prolonging the service life of alkaline electrolyzers. In this study, intermetallic 1-NiCo electrocatalysts were designed using DFT calculations and fabricated through a one-step solid-state reaction method. The DFT calculations indicated that 1-NiCo presented a lower H adsorption Gibbs free energy and a moderate HO dissociation barrier compared to the commonly used Ni catalyst and disordered NiCo alloy.

Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is the main pathogen that causes hospitalization for acute lower respiratory tract infections (ALRIs) in children. With the reopening of communities and schools, the resurgence of RSV in the COVID-19 post-pandemic era has become a major concern. To understand the circulation patterns and genotype variability of RSV in Tianjin before and during the COVID-19 pandemic, a total of 19,531 nasopharyngeal aspirate samples from hospitalized children in Tianjin from July 2017 to June 2022 were evaluated.

Article Synopsis
  • There is no agreed-upon timing for starting immunotherapy in patients with first-episode isolated optic neuritis linked to MOG-IgG (MOGAD), sparking the need for research on treatment timing.
  • A study involving 62 patients analyzed factors affecting visual recovery and relapse risk, finding that early intravenous methylprednisolone (IVMP) may improve final visual outcomes and that high baseline MOG-IgG serum titers correlate with higher relapse risk.
  • The research suggests initiating IVMP before visual acuity drops significantly and advises against using mycophenolate mofetil (MMF) in patients with low MOG-IgG levels, while urging further studies for confirmation of these results.

Background And Objectives: Lexical tone presents challenges to cochlear implant (CI) users especially in noise conditions. Bimodal hearing utilizes residual acoustic hearing in the contralateral side and may offer benefits for tone recognition in noise. The purpose of the present study was to evaluate tone recognition in both steady-state noise and multi-talker babbles by the prelingually-deafened, Mandarin-speaking children with unilateral CIs or bimodal hearing.

Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a chronic and progressive disease with high mortality rates. It has been shown that pirfenidone (PFD) and nintedanib (Ofev) can slow down the decline in lung function of IPF patients, but their efficacy remains suboptimal. Some studies have suggested that the combination of PFD and Ofev may yield promising results.
