The global distribution, persistence, bioaccumulation, and toxicity of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) have received significant attention. We determined the contents of major perfluoroalkyl acids (PFAAs) in various commercial fish species from different regions of the Beibu Gulf. We detected 14 out of 17 PFAAs across all species, with PFOS (Perfluorooctanesulphonate) showing the highest detection rate, followed by PFHxS (Perfluorohexanesulfonic acid), PFPeA (Perfluorovaleric acid), and PFTrDA (Perfluorotetradecanoic acid).

This study characterized the distribution, biomagnification and health risks of selected trace metals and PFAAs in various marine organisms from Haizhou Bay. Among the species examined, zinc (Zn) was the most prevalent metal, followed by copper (Cu) and chromium (Cr), whereas cadmium (Cd), total mercury (THg), and methylmercury (MeHg) contents were relatively low.

This study examined the occurrence and accumulation of MeHg in body feathers of 12 migratory terrestrial bird species originating from Siberia and northeastern China. Considerable variations in foraging habits and MeHg levels were observed among these species.
