Aim: This study explored patterns of service use and associated socioeconomic factors among Chinese elders with mental disabilities.

Methods: Data from the second China National Sample Survey on Disability (CNSSD) were used in this study. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression models were used to calculate the odds ratios and 95% confidence intervals for factors associated with utilization of mental health services among Chinese elderly people with a mental disability.

Unlabelled: The effects of dynamic compressive loading on the in vitro degradation behavior of pure poly-lactic acid (PLA) and PLA-based composite unidirectionally reinforced with micro-arc oxidized magnesium alloy wires (Mg/PLA) are investigated. Dynamic compressive loading is shown to accelerate degradation of pure PLA and Mg/PLA. As the applied stress is increased from 0.

A multilayer spiral-corrugated cantilever beam was developed as an improvement for a conventional single-layer flat cantilever beam to improve the performance of a piezoelectric geophone adopting polyvinylidene fluoride film for low frequency seismic vibration measurement. The proposed structure is longer and has less stiffness compared with the conventional beam, so the piezoelectric geophone adopting the developed cantilever beam has a lower natural frequency. To confirm the validity of the design, the finite element analysis was conducted and the results showed that the natural frequency of the geophone with the multilayer spiral-corrugated cantilever beam is much lower and the corrugated structure can improve the sensitivity of the geophone.

Radix Salviae miltiorrhizae (SM) and Lignum Dalbergiae odoriferae (DO) are traditional Chinese medicinal herbs used to treat ischemic heart disease and other cardiovascular diseases; however, to the best of our knowledge, there are currently few studies regarding their effects. The present study aimed to investigate the cardioprotective effects of SM and DO during myocardial ischemia/reperfusion (MI/R) injury in rats, and explore the molecular mechanisms that underlie their actions. In the present study, Sprague‑Dawley rats were pretreated with SM, the aqueous extract of DO (DOA) and the volatile oil of DO (DOO), either as a monotherapy or in combination for 7 days.

AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) is a pivotal cellular energy sensor. It is activated by stresses that cause depletion of energy and initiates adaptive responses by regulating metabolism balance. AMPK forms αβγ heterotrimer.

Our previous studies have provided evidences that calycosin can protect the brain from ischemia/reperfusion injury, but its mechanisms is not fully understand. Transient receptor potential canonical 6 (TRPC6) has a critical role in promoting neuronal survival against cerebral ischemic injury. The aim of the present study is to test whether calycosin protects against cerebral ischemic injury through TRPC6-CREB pathway.

Acetaminophen (APAP) is a common medication that induces hepatocellular damage in a time- or dose-dependent manner. Fibroblast growth factor 21 (FGF21) exerts a series of biological effects, including cellular repair. Compared to clinical diagnosis parameters, we aimed to evaluate whether FGF21 can serve as a sensitive biomarker for APAP-induced liver impairment.

Background: Emerging evidences have indicated that long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) play vital roles in cardiovascular physiology and pathology. The lncRNA MALAT1, a highly abundant and conserved imprinted gene, has been implicated in many cardiovascular diseases. However, the function of MALAT1 in calcific aortic valve disease (CAVD) remains unknown.

Epilepsy is the third-leading cause of psychiatry disability in China, and intellectual disability (ID) is also 1 major type of disabilities in China. This study estimates the prevalence of comorbidities with ID and epilepsy-related psychiatry disability (EPD) and examines mutual associations within ID and EPD.Data were taken from the Second China National Sample Survey on Disability, which was a nationally representative, population-based survey.

Background: Very few studies have explored the association between cigarette or alcohol use and high-risk sexual behaviors (HRSBs) among Chinese youth.

Aim: To identify the associations between cigarette and/or alcohol use and HRSBs in unmarried youth 15 to 24 years old in China.

Methods: Data were obtained from a nationally representative survey of youth 15 to 24 years old in China.

In the present study, we identified 50 peptides that are classified into 21 peptide families with antioxidant and/or antimicrobial activity from Amolops daiyunensis, Pelophylax hubeiensis, Hylarana maosuoensis and Nanorana pleskei, which belong to four different genera in the Ranidae and Dicroglossidae families. These four frog species were found for the first time to express antioxidant peptides (AOPs) and antimicrobial peptides (AMPs). These peptides include seven newly discovered families daiyunin-1, daiyunin-2, daiyunin-3, maosonensis-1MS1, pleskein-1, pleskein-2, and pleskein-3.

As an emerging class of fluorescent probes, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have recently received great interest owing to their fascinating functional properties, intriguing tunable structures, high selectivity and good sensitivity. Herein, we present a novel strategy based on the application of a facile water-stable MOF {[Cd(μ-abtz)·2I]} (Abtz-CdI-MOF, abtz = 1-(4-aminobenzyl)-1,2,4-triazole) using powerful solvo-thermal synthetic techniques, which can serve as an "off-on" fluorescent switch for the label-free detection of dopamine (DA) without any additional surface modification and functionalization. The fluorescence signal of Abtz-CdI-MOF can be efficiently quenched by KMnO, and then restored by DA in an "off-on" mode.

In wireless powered sensor networks (WPSN), it is essential to research uplink transmit power control in order to achieve throughput performance balancing and energy scheduling. Each sensor should have an optimal transmit power level for revenue maximization. In this paper, we discuss a dynamic game-based algorithm for optimal power control in WPSN.

The synthesis of optically pure secondary epoxy alcohols from racemic allylic alcohols using a single whole-cell biocatalyst of recombinant Escherichia coli coexpressing three oxidoreductases is described. The cascade involves the concurrent action of a styrene monooxygenase that catalyzes the formation of the chiral epoxy group, and two alcohol dehydrogenases that fulfil the epimerisation of the hydroxy group. Two sets of alcohol dehydrogenases were each applied to couple with styrene monooxygenase in order to realize the epimerisation in a stereo-complementary manner.

The present study was conducted to determine the combined analgesic effect of alfentanil and propofol in the formalin test. Diluted formalin was injected into the dorsal surface of the right hind paw in rats. Nociceptive behavior was determined by counting the number of flinches of the injected paw for 1 h after injection; a reduction in formalin‑induced flinching was interpreted as an antinociceptive effect.

Metal-organic frameworks are a class of attractive materials for fluorescent sensing. Improvement of hydrolytic stability, sensitivity, and selectivity of function is the key to advance application of fluorescent MOFs in aqueous media. In this work, two stable MOFs, [ZrO(OH)(HO)(L)] (BUT-14) and [ZrO(OH)(HO)(L)] (BUT-15), were designed and synthesized for the detection of metal ions in water.

The two-spotted spider mite, Tetranychus urticae Koch has two forms: green form and red form. Understanding the molecular basis of how these two forms established without divergent genetic background is an intriguing area. As a well-known epigenetic process, DNA methylation has particularly important roles in gene regulation and developmental variation across diverse organisms that do not alter genetic background.
