Herein, we have reported an environmentally friendly asymmetric aldol reaction between isatins and ketones catalyzed by double-hydrogen-bonded primary amine organocatalysts on water under mild conditions. Enantioenriched 3-hydroxy-2-oxindoles were obtained in high yields (up to 99%) and excellent stereoselectivities (up to 99 : 1 dr and 99% ee) under optimal conditions. Furthermore, the model reaction involving isatin and cyclohexanone was successfully scaled to 10 mmol with no reduction in yield or stereoselectivity.

The interfacial barrier of entry for light gas transport in a nanopore was a crucial factor to determine the separation efficiency in membrane technologies. To examine this effect, amorphous silica was prepared by sol-gel process, and its characterization results revealed that the commonly used cylindrical pore shape failed to represent the adsorption behavior of gases, but instead the pore shape had to be represented by a slit pore model. A finite element method (FEM) was developed to analyze the interfacial resistance by integrating a Lennard-Jones (LJ) potential over the layer area.

The stable and unstable regions of the Lorenz system are studied. We discuss the relationship between the initial conditions and both these regions, specifically, the preference for the trajectory of the Lorenz system to move towards the left or right equilibrium-point region from an initial point and the residence time of a trajectory in an equilibrium-point region. For this purpose, the four-rank Runge-Kutta algorithms and mathematical derivations are used, whereas a statistical method for the residence times is used.
