Early cancer detection using T-cell receptor sequencing (TCR-seq) and multiple instances learning methods has shown significant effectiveness. We introduce a multiple instance learning method based on convolutional neural networks and self-attention (MICA). First, MICA preprocesses TCR-seq using word vectors and then extracts features using convolutional neural networks.

Early Diagnosis of oral cancer is very important and can save you from some oral malignancies. However, while this approach aids in the rapid healing of patients and the preservation of their lives, there are several causes for poor and wrong diagnosis of oral cancer. In recent years, the use of computer-aided design diagnosis tools as an auxiliary tool alongside clinicians has greatly benefited in more accurate identification of this malignancy.

The Water Quality Index (WQI) provides comprehensive assessments in river systems; however, its calculation involves numerous water quality parameters, costly in sample collection and laboratory analysis. The study aimed to determine key water parameters and the most reliable models, considering seasonal variations in the water environment, to maximize the precision of WQI prediction by a minimal set of water parameters. Ten statistical or machine learning models were developed to predict the WQI over four seasons using water quality dataset collected in a coastal city adjacent to the Yellow Sea in China, based on which the key water parameters were identified and the variations were assessed by the Seasonal-Trend decomposition procedure based on Loess (STL).

Article Synopsis
  • Enterovirus 71 (EV71) is a major cause of hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD) and is a significant public health issue globally, but effective antiviral treatments are currently lacking.* -
  • Fucosylated chondroitin sulfates (FCS), derived from sea cucumbers, have shown strong antiviral effects against EV71, and different structural variations of FCS were analyzed for their efficacy.* -
  • The study highlights that factors like molecular weight and sulfation patterns of FCS are crucial for its ability to inhibit EV71, with molecular weight being the most important determinant, suggesting FCS could be a promising treatment option for HFMD.*

Application of microbial agents is a novel strategy to improve the quality and health of plant, which can be used to increase zinc (Zn) uptake and alleviate Zn toxicity. Here, endophytic bacteria with Zn solubilizing and growth-promoting properties were isolated from hyperaccumulating ecotype (HE) of Hance and their effects on Zn absorption and accumulation of non-hyperaccumulating ecotype (NHE) were studied. The results showed that most endophytic bacteria of HE have good Zn solubilizing or growth-promoting properties.

Intercropping with hyperaccumulators can facilitate the safe utilization of cadmium-contaminated soil. However, the effectiveness of this approach is influenced by plant species and varieties, which necessitates research on optimal plant consortia. In this study, 8 tomato varieties (3 cherry tomatoes and 5 common large-fruit tomatoes) were intercropped with Sedum alfredii in a moderately Cd-contaminated vegetable field.

Objective: This study investigated the impact of Aspergillus niger lysing polysaccharide monooxygenase (AnLPMO) on in vitro rumen microbial fermentation of rice straw.

Methods: AnLPMO was heterologously expressed in Escherichia coli. Fourier transform infrared spectrometry and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analyzed the surface structure of rice straw after AnLPMO treatment.

Lung cancer is a common malignancy that is frequently associated with systemic metabolic disorders. Early detection is pivotal to survival improvement. Although blood biomarkers have been used in its early diagnosis, missed diagnosis and misdiagnosis still exist due to the heterogeneity of lung cancer.

Due to its wide application, deep reinforcement learning (DRL) has been extensively studied in the motion planning community in recent years. However, in the current DRL research, regardless of task completion, the state information of the agent will be reset afterward. This leads to a low sample utilization rate and hinders further explorations of the environment.

Ischemic stroke is currently the most common type of stroke, and the key pathological link is cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury (CIRI), while the key factor leading to apoptosis and necrosis of ischemic nerve cells is calcium overload. Current studies have confirmed that acupuncture therapy has a good modulating effect on calcium homeostasis and can reduce cerebral ischemia-reperfusion induced damage of neuronal cells by inhibiting calcium overload. After reviewing the relevant literature published in the past 15 years, we find that acupuncture plays a role in regulating the pathological mechanism of calcium overload after CIRI by inhibiting the opening of connexin 43 hemichannels, regulating the intracellular free calcium ion concentration, suppressing the expression of calmodulin, and blocking the function of L-type voltage-gated calcium channels, thereby inhibiting calcium overload, regulating calcium homeostasis and antagonizing neuronal damage resulted from cerebral ischemia-reperfusion, which may provide ideas for future research.

Genome-wide association studies have shown that common genetic variants associated with complex diseases are mostly located in non-coding regions, which may not be causal. In addition, the limited number of validated non-coding functional variants makes it difficult to develop an effective supervised learning model. Therefore, improving the accuracy of predicting non-coding causal variants has become critical.

The challenge of wheat straw as a ruminant feed is its low ruminal digestibility. This study investigated the impact of a xylanase called RuXyn, derived from the rumen metagenome of beef cattle, on the in vitro ruminal fermentation of wheat straw. RuXyn encoded 505 amino acids and was categorized within subfamily 8 of the glycosyl hydrolase 30 family.

The development of injectable self-healing adhesive hydrogel dressings with excellent bactericidal activity and wound healing ability is urgently in demand for combating biofilm infections. Herein, a multifunctional hydrogel (QP/QT-MB) with near-infrared (NIR) light-activated mild photothermal/gaseous antimicrobial activity was developed based on the dynamic reversible borate bonds and hydrogen bonds crosslinking between quaternization chitosan (QCS) derivatives alternatively containing phenylboronic acid and catechol-like moieties in conjunction with the encapsulation of BNN6-loaded mesoporous polydopamine (MPDA@BNN6 NPs). Given the dynamic reversible cross-linking feature, the versatile hybrid hydrogel exhibited injectability, flexibility, and rapid self-healing ability.

The minimum vertex cover (MVC) problem is a canonical -hard combinatorial optimization problem aiming to find the smallest set of vertices such that every edge has at least one endpoint in the set. This problem has extensive applications in cybersecurity, scheduling, and monitoring link failures in wireless sensor networks (WSNs). Numerous local search algorithms have been proposed to obtain "good" vertex coverage.

Background: Dental pulp stem cells (DPSCs) are adult stem cells with multi-directional differentiation potential derived from ectoderm. Vitro experiments have shown that adding cytokines can help DPSCs to be transformed from multipotent stem cells to osteoblasts. TGF-β has been proved to have an effect on the proliferation and mineralization of bone tissue, but its effect on the osteogenesis and proliferation of dental pulp stem cells is still uncertain.
