Background: Disease progression rates and outcomes per stage of kidney disease in kidney transplant recipients with type 1 diabetes mellitus are unknown.

Study Design: Single-center retrospective cohort study.

Settings & Participants: 276 kidney transplant recipients with type 1 diabetes mellitus and a functioning graft at 1 year posttransplantation.

BOLD-MRI assessment of intrarenal oxygenation and oxidative stress in patients with chronic kidney allograft dysfunction.

Blood oxygen level-dependent (BOLD) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) uses deoxyhemoglobin as an endogenous contrast agent for the noninvasive assessment of tissue oxygen bioavailability. We hypothesized that intrarenal oxygenation was impaired in patients with chronic allograft nephropathy (CAN). Ten kidney-transplant recipients with CAN and nine healthy volunteers underwent BOLD-MRI.

Cephalexin-induced acute tubular necrosis.

A 24-year-old woman with a history of penicillin allergy developed reversible acute renal failure after receiving cephalexin for 4 days. The patient experienced nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, pruritus, cough, and an elevated creatinine level of 2.2 mg/dl.
