Lignin utilization is one of the key challenges in the valorziation of lignocellulose. Filamentous fungi are promising candidates for lignin degradation and mineralization. However, novel lignin-degrading species are underexplored and the mechanism of lignin degradation is not fully understood.

However, recombinant proteins are expressed with highly secreted host proteins when stronger promoters are used under inducing conditions. In addition, the efficiency of target protein expression can be limited by the application of constitutive promoters in recently developed filamentous fungal expression systems.
