Background: In recent years, clinicians often encounter patients with multiple pulmonary nodules in their clinical practices. As most of these ground glass nodules (GGNs) are small in volume and show no spicule sign, it is difficult to use Mayo Clinic Model to make early diagnosis of lung cancer accurately, especially in large numbers of nonsmoking women who have no tumor history. Other clinical models are disadvantaged by a relatively high false-positive or false-negative rate.

Objective: There is a lack of evidence to support a consensus on whether surgery or radiotherapy is optimal for elderly or very elderly patients with early-stage non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). We aimed to assess the impact of surgery or radiotherapy on survival in elderly (≥70 years) and very elderly (≥80 years) patients with early-stage NSCLC.

Methods: Patients aged ≥70 years diagnosed with early-stage NSCLC between January 1, 1975, and December 31, 2018, were identified in the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database.

Introduction: Thymosin drugs are commonly used for the treatment of viral infections due to their immunomodulatory effects. The comprehensive clinical efficacy of Thymalfasin therapy for COVID-19 associated pneumonia is not yet fully researched, another issue, whether the use of thymosin drugs can reduce the rate of COVID-19 progression to severe pneumonia has not been well documented. The aim of the present study was to multi-angle evaluate the clinical efficacy of Thymalfasin therapy for COVID-19 pneumonia by retrospective review of the clinical data of 338 inpatients with common COVID-19 infection who received treatment in our hospital.

Background: In recent years, Chinese clinicians are frequently encountered by patients with multiple lung nodules and these intensity ground-glass nodules (GGNs) are usually small in size and some of them have no spicule sign. In addition, early lung cancer is diagnosed in large numbers of non-heavy smokers and individuals with no caner history. Obviously, the Mayo model is not applicable to these patients.

Background: Most NSCLCs metastasised out of the lungs at the time of diagnosis and cannot be surgically removed . Cytotoxic chemotherapy drugs have become the main treatment in recent decades, especially in patients with NSCLC without EGFR, ALK, and ROS gene mutations. The prognosis of lung cancer is poor, and the overall 5-year survival rate is only 9-13%.

The COVID-19 pandemic is a significant health threat. Health care worker (HCWs) are at a significant risk of infection which may cause high levels of psychological distress. The aim of this study was to investigate the psychological impact of the COVID-19 on HCWs and factors which were associated with these stresses during the first outbreak in Shanghai.

Approximately 20% resectable non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients are treated non-surgically due to various reasons. The aim of the present study was to compare the effectiveness of radiofrequency ablation (RFA) and stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) in patients with stage IA NSCLC who were ineligible for surgery using the surveillance, epidemiology and end-results (SEER) Database. Using the SEER registry, we identified a total of 6,195 IA NSCLC patients who received SBRT or RFA between 2004 and 2015 because of ineligibility for surgical resection due to various reasons.

Article Synopsis
  • The study compares early-stage clinical features between Influenza virus pneumonia and COVID-19 to aid clinicians in distinguishing between the two.
  • Both types of pneumonia primarily affect adults over 50, with common symptoms like fever, cough, and muscle soreness; however, COVID-19 may also show digestive symptoms.
  • Key differences include elevated C-reactive protein (CRP) levels and alterations in blood cell counts in COVID-19 patients, along with distinctive lung CT imaging features that help in diagnosis.

Cyclin-dependent kinase 5 (CDK5), an atypical member of the cyclin-dependent kinase family, plays an important role in the nervous system. Recent studies have shown that CDK5 is also associated with tumors. However, few studies have been done to investigate the mechanism underlying the connection between CDK5 and cancers.

Red blood cell distribution width (RDW) is a risk factor for the complications caused by obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS). This study was aimed to evaluate the predictive value of RDW for the occurrence of cerebral infarction in patients with OSAHS.We conducted a prospective study of 129 consecutive patients who were admitted to the Sleep Laboratory of in the Tenth People's Hospital of Shanghai (China) with complaints of snoring, apnea, or daytime sleepiness.

Article Synopsis
  • Adenylate Cyclase-associated protein (CAP) is a key protein involved in regulating cell movement and has different effects in various types of cancer, like being linked to poor outcomes in lung cancer but inhibiting movement in cervical cancer cells.
  • The study utilizes multiple databases to analyze CAP's gene changes, mutations, and its relation to cancer progression and patient survival rates.
  • Ultimately, the research aims to see if CAP could be a useful indicator for diagnosis or treatment in specific cancers based on its expression and role in cancer behavior.

Background: Concomitant occurrence of invasive pulmonary aspergillosis (IPA) with cryptogenic organizing pneumonia (COP) is scarce. Here, we report a case where COP was a presenting feature in a patient with diagnosed IPA, and review additional 58 COP patients reported in the literature from 1988 through 2013.

Case Outline: The study was reviewed and approved by the Institutional Ethics Committee of Shanghai Tenth People's Hospital of Tongji University and was conducted in compliance with the Helsinki Declaration.

This study was designed to establish a biomarker risk model for predicting brain metastasis (BM) in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The model comprises 120 cases of NSCLC that were treated and followed up for 4 years. The patients were divided into the BM (n=50) and non-BM (other visceral metastasis and those without recurrence) (n=70) groups.

Objective: To describe the preparation of nano emodin transfersome (NET) and investigate its effect on mRNA expression of adipose triglyceride lipase (ATGL) and G0/G1 switch gene 2 (G0S2) in adipose tissue of diet-induced obese rats.

Methods: NET was prepared by film-ultrasonic dispersion method. The effects of emodin components at different ratios on encapsulation efficiency were investigated.
