Regeneration of injured central nervous system (CNS) axons is highly restricted, leading to permanent neurological deficits. The myristoylated alanine-rich C-kinase substrate (MARCKS) is a membrane-associated protein kinase C (PKC) substrate ubiquitously expressed in eukaryotic cells, plays critical roles in development, brain plasticity, and tissues regeneration. However, little is known about the role of Marcks in CNS axon regeneration.

Article Synopsis
  • Acute aortic dissection (AAD) is a serious cardiovascular emergency linked to changes in vascular smooth muscle cells and the breakdown of the extracellular matrix, with Follistatin-like 1 (FSTL1) found to play a protective role in related cardiovascular issues.
  • The study showed that FSTL1 levels were significantly lower in both human and mouse AAD models, and adding FSTL1 back helped improve VSMC function and reduce damage in the aorta.
  • Mechanistically, the research revealed that FSTL1 can enhance the phosphorylation of AMPK, suggesting that targeting FSTL1 could be a novel approach for preventing and treating AAD.

Men who have sex with men (MSM) are at a high risk of HIV infection and should be offered effective preventive measures, such as pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP). However, PrEP uptake among eligible MSM was not as high as desired. Diverse research findings on how risky sexual behaviors affect PrEP uptake highlight the necessity for a comprehensive investigation.

Bunge produces dimorphic seeds on the same plant, with brown seeds displaying non-dormant characteristics and black seeds exhibiting intermediate physiological dormancy traits. Previous studies have shown that black seeds have a very low germination rate under natural conditions, but exogenous GA effectively enhanced the germination rate of black seeds. However, the physiological and molecular mechanisms underlying the effects of GA on black seeds are still unclear.

The axons of retinal ganglion cells (RGCs) form the optic nerve, transmitting visual information from the eye to the brain. Damage or loss of RGCs and their axons is the leading cause of visual functional defects in traumatic injury and degenerative diseases such as glaucoma. However, there are no effective clinical treatments for nerve damage in these neurodegenerative diseases.

The complex of heavy metals and organic acids leads to high difficulty in heavy metals separation by traditional technologies. Meanwhile, alkaline precipitation commonly used in industry causes the great consumption of resources and extra pollution. Herein, the effective decomplexation of Cu(Ⅱ)-EDTA and synchronous recycling of Cu were realized by contact-electro-catalysis (CEC) coupled with capacitive deionization (CDI) innovatively.

Prussian blue analogs (PBAs) are considered as one of the most potential electrode materials in capacitive deionization (CDI) due to their unique 3D framework structure. However, their practical applications suffer from low desalination capacity and poor cyclic stability. Here, an entropy engineering strategy is proposed that incorporates high-entropy (HE) concept into PBAs to address the unfavorable multistage phase transitions during CDI desalination.
