The search for high-performance and low-cost electrocatalysts in acid conditions still remains a challenging target. Herein, iridium (Ir) doped strontium manganate (named as Ir -SMO) is proposed as an efficient and durable low-iridium electrocatalyst for water oxidation in acidic media. The Ir -SMO with 75% less iridium in comparison to that of iridium dioxide (IrO ) exhibits excellent performance for oxygen evolution reaction (OER), which is even better than most of the iridium-based oxide electrocatalysts.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA transient numerical simulation method is used to investigate the temperature field, velocity field, and solidified field of large-size Waspaloy superalloy during the electroslag remelting (ESR) process. The effects of melting rate, filling rate, and thickness of the slag layer on the molten pool shape and dendrite arm spacing evolution have been discussed. The temperature in the slag pool is high and relatively uniformly distributed, the temperature range is 1690-1830 K.

Effective measurement of cognitive impairment caused by Alzheimer's disease (AD) will provide a chance for early medical intervention and delay the disease onset. Diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) provides a non-intrusive examination of cranial nerve diseases which can help us observe the microstructure of neuron fibers. Cognitive control network (CCN) consists of the brain regions that highly related to human self-control.

The Alzheimer's Disease (AD) has become a major threat of human health with its incidence rate ascending year by year. Early diagnosis of AD is very important for AD patients to keep life quality. The resting-state fMRI (rs-fMRI) which precisely reflects the brain changes on the resting state of individuals provides a quantitative approach, which has been introduced to distinguish AD patients from normal population.

Disruption of neural connections among regions regulating mood and cognition rather than cerebrovascular lesions may contribute to post-stroke depression (PSD). In this paper, we hypothesized that structural abnormalities in white matter structure like cingulate cortex induced by focal infarcts would play a role in mood regulation or depression after stroke onset. Various DTI coefficients including FA, RD and ADC with multiple signal distribution measurements were collected and statistically analyzed.

The high mortality rate of gastric cancer is mainly attributed to late detection, so diagnosis and treatment are crucial to decreasing mortality. The purpose of this study was to examine the predictive accuracy and discriminative ability of cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) in gastric cancer patients, in addition to the classical cancer tumor biomarkers carbohydrate antigen 199 (CA199) and carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA).

Autophagy also plays an important role in tumor pathology. In this study, we detected autophagy protein light chain 3 (LC3) and X-linked inhibitor of apoptosis protein (XIAP) in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) tissue specimens to assess their role in HCC tumorigenesis and progression.

Constitutive activation of STAT3 is found in various types of tumors, including HCC. In addition, suppressors of cytokine signaling 3 (SOCS3) signals for negative feedback to STATs, and is found to be inversely correlated with STAT3 expression.

Immunoproteomics are a promising method to identify biomarkers of different diseases. In the present study, we used immunoproteomics to study proteins of intestinal mucosal lesions and neighboring normal intestinal mucosa of 8 CD patients.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA number of case–control studies have been conducted to investigate the association of CDKN1B gene polymorphisms with breast cancer. However, these studies reported conflicting results. The aim of our study was to quantitatively summarize the association of CDKN1B gene polymorphisms with breast cancer.

Methods: The clinical data of 31 patients with acute appendicitis after radical gastrectomy for gastric carcinoma from January 2006 to January 2012 was analyzed retrospectively. The profiles of previous operations, symptoms, physical signs, disease duration, progression time, examination results, peri-operative complications, results of bacterial culture and use of antibiotics were used to evaluate the clinical characteristics and therapeutic strategies.
Background: There is limited data on the clinical outcome of patients with pandemic H1N1 (pH1N1) pneumonia who received oseltamivir treatment, especially when the treatment was administered more than 48 hours after symptom onset.
Methods: During the pandemic in 2009, a cohort of pH1N1 influenza pneumonia was built in China, and their clinical information was collected systematically, and analyzed with Cox models.
Results: 920 adults and 541 children with pneumonia who didn't receive corticosteroids were analyzed.
Background: Human hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most common solid tumors. It is always associated with prolonged hospital stay, increased attributable mortality, and greater hospitalization cost. To identify new biomarkers that could improve the early diagnosis in hepatocellular carcinoma, we performed a proteomic study.

STAT3 plays an essential role in cell survival, proliferation, and differentiation. Aberrantly hyper-activated STAT3 signaling in cancer cells and in the tumor microenvironment has been detected in a wide variety of human cancers and is considered an important factor for cancer initiation, development, and progression.

However, the clinical role of pSTAT3 and SOCS3 in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is not well established. Immunohistochemical analysis of pSTAT3, SOCS3, Ki67 and VEGF expression was performed on tissue microarrays from 138 HCC patients.
