Esophageal cancer is the eighth most common malignant tumor worldwide, of which esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) is the dominant histological subtype. A drug shortage for ESCC therapy triggered us to explore the roles of fibroblast growth factor receptor 2 (FGFR2) and its upstream regulator miR-671-5p in ESCC progression. We compared the levels of FGFR2 and miR-671-5p between human ESCC tissues and their matched normal esophageal tissues and found an association between higher levels of FGFR2 and lower levels of miR-671-5p in ESCC tissues.

Previously, we showed that CACNA2D3 (voltage-dependent subunit alpha 2 delta 3 of a calcium channel complex) was significantly downregulated and functioned as a tumor suppressor in ESCC, but its role in the chemosensitivity of ESCC to cisplatin remained unknown. Here, we found that the expression of CACNA2D3 was significantly associated with poor platinum response in ESCC patients from the Gene Expression Omnibus database.

Current treatment methods remain limited, and the discovery of ideal wound-healing therapeutics has been a focus of research. Functional recombinant proteins such as basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) and epidermal growth factor (EGF) have been developed for skin repair, however, some disadvantages in their use remain.

By employing the tumor homing property of Cetuximab and the drug-loading capability of silica nanoparticles, the prepared Cet-SLN/Dox was able to load Dox to achieve the co-delivery of two drugs (Cetuximab and Dox). In vitro analysis revealed that Cet-SLN/Dox was nano-sized particles with decent drug loading capabilities and smart drug release profile.

We previously showed that conditioned medium (CM) from CAFs induces proliferation and motility of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) cells. Here, we investigated the molecular mechanisms by which the CAF-secreted proteins induce ESCC development and progression.

In this study, one TSG, CACNA2D3 at 3p21.1, was characterized.

In this study, we characterized RBMS3 gene encoding an RNA-binding protein as a candidate TSG located at 3p24. Downregulation of RBMS3 mRNA and protein levels was documented in approximately 50% of the primary ESCCs examined.

The aim of this study is to investigate the role of GPR39 in human esophageal cancer development, and to examine the prevalence and clinical significance of GPR39 overexpression in ESCC.
Methods: The mRNA expression level of GPR39 was analyzed in 9 ESCC cell lines and 50 primary ESCC tumors using semi-quantitative RT-PCR.
Amplification of 19q is a frequent genetic alteration in many solid tumors, and SEI1 is a candidate oncogene within the amplified region. Our previous study found that the oncogenic function of SEI1 was associated with chromosome instability. In this study, we report a novel mechanism of genomic instability involving the SEI1-SET-NM23H1 pathway.

Here we screened a phage display heptapeptide library with bFGF and identified 11 specific bFGF-binding phage clones. Two of these clones had identical sequence and the corresponding peptide (referred to as P7) showed high homology to the immunoglobulin-like (Ig-like) domain III (D3) of high-affinity bFGF receptors, FGFR1 (IIIc) and FGFR2 (IIIc).

We showed herein that SUMO fusion to human keratinocyte growth factor 2 (hKGF-2) gene was feasible and it significantly enhanced protein expression and its efficiency. The fusion DNA fragment composed of SUMO gene, which was fused to hexahistidine tag, and hKGF-2 gene was amplified by PCR and inserted into the expression vector pET28a to construct the recombinant plasmid, pET28a-SUMO-hKGF-2.
