Article Synopsis
  • A study was conducted on 180 nose images from 60 dogs of various ages, genders, and breeds to examine the uniqueness of canine nose patterns.
  • Both visual inspection and biometric algorithms were used to analyze the images, confirming that each dog's nose pattern is unique and remains consistent over time.
  • This conclusion was further supported by a larger dataset of 278 images from 70 dogs, reinforcing earlier claims that dog nose patterns can serve as effective biometric markers.

Unlabelled: TNF-alpha is an important mediator of bone loss. In the HS-5 hBMSC, TNF-alpha and H2O2 increased intracellular ROS levels and induced cell apoptosis through activation of caspases, JNK and NF-kappaB. alpha-Lipoic acid prevented these changes induced by TNF-alpha and H2O2, suggesting its potential therapeutic applications in attenuating bone loss.

Growing evidence has shown a biochemical link between increased oxidative stress and reduced bone density. Although alpha-lipoic acid (alpha-LA) has been shown to act as a thiol antioxidant, its effect on bone cells has not been determined. Using proteomic analysis, we identified six differentially expressed proteins in the conditioned media of alpha-LA-treated human bone marrow stromal cell line (HS-5).
