Coronary artery disease (CAD) receives intensive research due to its high incidence and severe impact on the quality of life. One member of the matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), MMP-1, has been reported to be associated with CAD. To identify the markers contributing to the genetic susceptibility to CAD, nine single-nucleotide polymorphisms (rs1799750, rs498186, rs475007, rs514921, rs494379, rs996999, rs2071232, rs1938901, and rs2239008) throughout the MMP-1 gene were genotyped using MALDI-TOF within the MassARRAY system, and the allele and genotype distributions were compared between 438 healthy controls and 411 patients with CAD from a Chinese Han population.

Previous studies have demonstrated that the level of brain‑derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) is decreased in depressed patients and this depletion may be reversed by antidepressants. Several recent studies have suggested that BDNF is involved in the pathogenesis of CAD.

However, the value of melatonin in the treatment of cancer remains disputable. Hence, we performed a systematic review of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of melatonin in solid tumor cancer patients and observed its effect on tumor remission, 1-year survival, and side effects due to radiochemotherapy.

Methanol was produced from methane with a high conversion rate using a high cell density process with Methylosinus trichosporium OB3b in the presence of a high concentration of phosphate buffer. More than 1.1 g/L methanol accumulated in the reaction media under optimized reaction conditions (17 g dry cell/L, 400 mmol/L phosphate, and 10 mmol/L MgCl(2)) in the presence of 20 mmol/L sodium formate.

Their structures were elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic data analyses and by comparison with the related known compounds.
