Purpose: Glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RAs) have risen exponentially in usage and have been shown to exert neuroprotective and anti-inflammatory effects across multiple organ systems. This study investigates whether GLP-1RAs influence the risk for age-related ocular diseases.
Design: Retrospective cohort study.
Purpose: To introduce and validate quantitative oblique back-illumination microscopy (qOBM) as a label-free, high-contrast imaging technique for visualizing conjunctival goblet cells (GCs) and assessing their functional changes.
Methods: qOBM was developed in conjunction with moxifloxacin-based fluorescence microscopy (MBFM), which was used for validating GC imaging. Initial validation was conducted with polystyrene beads, followed by testing on normal mouse conjunctiva under both ex-vivo and in-vivo conditions.
Background: Food image recognition, a crucial step in computational gastronomy, has diverse applications across nutritional platforms. Convolutional neural networks (CNNs) are widely used for this task due to their ability to capture hierarchical features. However, they struggle with long-range dependencies and global feature extraction, which are vital in distinguishing visually similar foods or images where the context of the whole dish is crucial, thus necessitating transformer architecture.

These piezoelectric transducers, which operate in underwater environments, exhibit variations in electrical-mechanical impedance due to practical environmental factors, such as waterproof molding structures or variations in pressure and flow rates depending on the water depth. To address these challenges, we modeled the underwater load conditions using the finite element method and analyzed the impedance characteristics of the piezoelectric transducer under realistic environmental conditions.

We conducted a population-based cohort study, using mother-child linked database in Korea: (a) maternal cohort between December 2019, and March 2022; (b) neonatal cohort between September 2020, and June 2021. Exposure was defined as influenza vaccination during pregnancy.

Methods: In this double-blind study, American Society of Anesthesiologists I to II patients undergoing TKA were assigned to receive 0.125% bupivacaine + fentanyl 4 µg/mL (group R) or 0.
Septic arthritis (SA) are rare in patients with burns, but delayed treatment can result in irreversible joint destruction. Early diagnosis and immediate treatment are necessary to prevent joint destruction. Robot training in patients with musculoskeletal diseases and burns, can improve joint range of motion (ROM), muscle strength, and lower extremity function.

With the increasing emphasis on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in organizations and institutions, academic societies in gastroenterology and hepatology are beginning to take actionable steps toward achieving DEI. The successful implementation of DEI initiatives leads to excellence in the field, improved patient outcomes, particularly in areas where health disparities are prevalent, and advances in the gastrointestinal discipline. Such implementation also results in a workforce that better reflects the growing diversity of the population.

However, such combination immunotherapies require specific timing of doses to show sufficient antitumor efficacy. Sequential treatment usually requires multiple administrations of the individual drugs at specific time points, thus increasing the complexity of the drug regimen and compromising patient compliance.

From this perspective, it is noteworthy that formal thought disorder has historically been considered pathognomonic of schizophrenia. Given that human thought is partially based on language, we can hypothesize that alterations in language may help differentiate between schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.

Insulin-like growth factor (IGF) systems are known to play a major role in regulating neuroendocrine functions across various physiological processes and are particularly involved in growth. IGFs expression also is directly related to the nutritional status of vertebrates, however, full mechanism has not been clearly identified in bivalves.

Flavor and taste are critical factors influencing consumer attraction for meat, shaping preferences and commercial demand. This review examines conventional and novel approaches to flavor and taste creation in the meat business, highlighting ways that improve sensory profiles and meet consumer demands. Conventional methods, such as aging and marination, are analyzed in conjunction with new technologies, including enzymatic treatment, fermentation, genetic treatments to alter texture and enhance umami.

Belzutifan, an FDA-approved hypoxia-inducible factor-2α (HIF-2α) inhibitor, has shown promise in inhibiting tumor growth; however, its clinical efficacy is hindered by its low solubility, rapid clearance, and limited bioavailability. In this study, we present a strategy using porous silicon (pSi) microparticles and nanoparticles as carriers for the sustained delivery of benzoate to MCC cells.

This study investigated the impact of menopause on the progression and management of common benign gynecological conditions such as polycystic ovary syndrome, endometriosis, uterine fibroids, and adenomyosis. These conditions often present with menstruation-related symptoms such as irregular cycles, heavy bleeding, and pelvic pain. While these symptoms typically subside after menopause, the underlying pathology of such benign gynecological conditions may be differentially affected by the physiological changes associated with menopause, sometimes leading to exacerbation or additional management challenges.

Multivalued logic (MVL) systems, in which data are processed with more than two logic values, are considered a viable solution for achieving superior processing efficiency with higher data density and less complicated system complexity without further scaling challenges. Such MVL systems have been conceptually realized by using negative transconductance (NTC) devices whose channels consist of van der Waals (vdW) heterojunctions of low-dimensional semiconductors; however, their circuit operations have not been quite ideal for driving multiple stages in real circuit applications due to reasons such as a reduced output swing and poorly defined logic states. Herein, we demonstrate ternary inverter circuits with near rail-to-rail swing and three distinct logic states by employing vdW p-n heterojunctions of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNT) and MoS where the SWCNT layer completely covers the MoS layer.
