To determine a rapid and accurate method for locating the keypoint and "keyhole" in the suboccipital retrosigmoid keyhole approach. (1) Twelve adult skull specimens were selected to locate the anatomical landmarks on the external surface of the skull. The line between the infraorbital margin and superior margin of the external acoustic meatus was named the baseline.

Article Synopsis
  • The study reviews the surgical management of complex skull base tumors at Zhuhai People's Hospital using advanced image fusion technology from October 2019 to January 2022.
  • Seven cases were analyzed, including various types of tumors, where preoperative multimodal image fusion helped in surgical planning and led to successful gross total resection for all but two cases with minor complications.
  • The findings suggest that using multimodal image fusion and tailored imaging assessment enhances surgical outcomes for complex skull base tumors, emphasizing the importance of personalized treatment strategies.

Objective: To explore the application value of preoperative multimodal image fusion technique in microvascular decompression (MVD) surgery via the suboccipital retrosigmoid approach.

Methods: Comprehensive data of 13 patients with primary trigeminal neuralgia (TN) and 13 patients with hemifacial spasm (HFS) treated by MVD surgery via the suboccipital retrosigmoid approach at the Department of Neurosurgery in Zhuhai People's Hospital from January 2021 to December 2021 were retrospectively analyzed. Preoperatively, all patients underwent cranial thin-section computed tomography and magnetic resonance examinations.

Article Synopsis
  • The study assessed the effectiveness of preoperative multimodal image fusion and intraoperative Dyna CT in aiding Percutaneous balloon compression (PBC) surgery for 24 patients with primary trigeminal neuralgia (PTN).
  • All patients experienced immediate pain relief post-surgery, with complications primarily consisting of facial numbness and mild weakness, but no serious side effects were reported.
  • The findings suggest that multimodal imaging improves surgical planning and outcomes, with a high success rate and minimal recurrence of pain after an average follow-up of 9.6 months.

Article Synopsis
  • LINC00467 plays a significant role in glioma cell regulation, influencing both cell proliferation and migration.
  • Knockdown of LINC00467 leads to reduced glioma cell viability and increased apoptosis, highlighting its potential as a therapeutic target.
  • The study reveals that LINC00467 negatively regulates miR-200a while promoting E2F3 expression, indicating a complex interaction that drives glioma progression.

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are able to function as either oncogenes or tumor suppressor genes in tumorigenesis, and have been proposed as novel targets for anticancer treatment. It has previously been suggested that miRNAs have important roles in the initiation and progression of glioblastoma; however, the effects of miR‑566 in glioblastoma are currently unclear. The present study aimed to demonstrate that miR-566 can modulate vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) by targeting Von Hippel‑Lindau (VHL) in glioblastoma in vitro and in vivo by inhibiting the expression of miR-566.
