Background: In autologous tissue breast reconstruction, recipient vessels are important for artery perfusion and venous drainage to ensure free flap survival. There are insufficient clinical outcomes to select efficient recipient vessels in bi-pedicled deep inferior epigastric perforator (DIEP) flap reconstruction.

Methods: We presented a retrospective observational series of 108 patients regarding the diameter, anastomosis time, and re-anastomosis rate in internal mammary (IM), circumflex scapular (CS), thoracodorsal (TD), thoracoacromial (TA), lateral thoracic (LT), and internal mammary perforator (IMP) vessels of bi-pedicled DIEP flaps for breast reconstruction after mastectomy.

Article Synopsis
  • Suction-curettage using an arthroscopic shaver is the most effective treatment for bromhidrosis, but it comes with risks of complications like hypertrophic scarring.
  • A study of 215 patients revealed that complications occurred in 12.1% of cases, with older age and tumescent infiltration being significant factors affecting outcomes.
  • Despite some complications like skin necrosis and hematomas, the treatment still offered good pain control, and there were no lasting motion issues due to postoperative care.*

Impaired wound healing is an ongoing issue that cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy or radiotherapy face. Our previous study regarding lung-cancer-associated pleural fluid (LCPF) demonstrated its propensity to promote endothelial proliferation, migration, and angiogenesis, which are crucial features during cutaneous wound healing. Therefore, the current study aimed to investigate the effect of pleural fluid on cutaneous wound closure in vitro and in vivo using HaCaT keratinocytes and a full-thickness skin wound model, respectively.

Screening for mismatch repair (MMR) deficiency in unselected patients with endometrial carcinoma (EC) and the clinicopathologic descriptions of ECs with MMR deficiency have been well demonstrated in Western populations, but studies on Asian populations are relatively scarce. In this study, we described the clinicopathologic features of ECs according to MMR status in unselected Taiwanese patients. We also conducted subgroup analysis of MMR-deficient (dMMR) cases according to the presence or absence of MLH1.

Objectives: To prevent aesthetic and functional deformities, precisely closed reduction is crucial in the management of nasal fractures. Plain film radiography (PF), ultrasonography (USG), and computed tomography can help confirm the diagnosis and classification of fractures and assist in performing closed reduction. However, no study in the literature reports on precisely closed reduction assisted with PF measurements under the picture archiving and communication system (PACS).

Malignant pleural effusion is a common complication in metastatic breast cancer (MBC); however, changes in the pleural microenvironment are poorly characterized, especially with respect to estrogen receptor status. Histologically, MBC presents with increased microvessels beneath the parietal and visceral pleura, indicating generalized angiogenic activity. Breast cancer-associated pleural fluid (BAPF) was collected and cultured with HUVECs to recapitulate the molecular changes in subpleural endothelial cells.

Heart rhythm disturbances have been widely recognized as major triggers of cardiovascular (CV) mortality in chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients. Connexin 43 (Cx43)-composed gap junctions are essential in cardiomyocyte synchronization and may be involved in the pathological response to uremic toxins. Indoxyl sulfate (IS) is one of the most dominant uremic toxins that contribute to CKD-related cardiovascular diseases.
