Premature loss of root canal-treated primary teeth has long been a concern in dentistry. To address this, researchers developed a sodium iodide-based root canal-filling material as an alternative to traditional iodoform-based materials. The goal of this study was to improve the physicochemical properties of the sodium iodide-based material to meet clinical use standards.

The chemical stability and energy density of redox couples are crucial factors in enhancing the durability and cost competitiveness of aqueous flow batteries. This study proposed integrating functional groups to viologen anolyte to increase its solubility and, consequently, energy density and stability for prolonged performance. Specifically, sulfonate and ester groups were selectively incorporated at the nitrogen sites of viologen to enhance solubility, leveraging their asymmetry and double hydrophilicity.

This study aimed to investigate the impact of different viscosities of silicone oil on the physicochemical, pre-clinical usability, and biological properties of a sodium iodide paste. Six different paste groups were created by mixing therapeutic molecules, sodium iodide (D30) and iodoform (I30), with calcium hydroxide and one of the three different viscosities of silicone oil (high (H), medium (M), and low (L)). The study evaluated the performance of these groups, including I30H, I30M, I30L, D30H, D30M, and D30L, using multiple parameters such as flow, film thickness, pH, viscosity, and injectability, with statistical analysis ( < 0.

A composite of Si nanoparticles (SiNPs) and a two-dimensional (2D) porous conductive Ni3(2,3,6,7,10,11-hexaiminotriphenylene)2 (Ni3(HITP)2) metal-organic framework (MOF), namely Si/Ni3(HITP)2, is suggested as a potential anode material for Li-ion batteries (LIBs). The Ni3(HITP)2 MOF with a carbon backbone and evenly dispersed Ni and N heteroatoms showed high potential for mitigating the volume expansion of Si and enhancing the electronic conductivity as well as Li storage ability of the Si/Ni3(HITP)2 anode. The Si/Ni3(HITP)2 electrode delivered a reversible capacity of 2657 mA h g-1 after 100 cycles of discharge-charge at a rate of 0.

Article Synopsis
  • A new method was developed to quickly boost triacylglycerol (TAG) and fatty acid production in Chlorella sp. through mild electric stimulation.
  • Applying a current of 31 mA for 4 hours increased TAG levels by 2.1 times compared to untreated cells and significantly raised polyunsaturated fatty acids.
  • The study suggests that the increased TAG and fatty acids result from stimulated fatty acid biosynthesis and metabolic processes in the algal cells due to the electric treatment.

Article Synopsis
  • Chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP) is a progressive or relapsing nerve disorder believed to be caused by immune system reactions, particularly in children.
  • A study at Severance Children's Hospital analyzed four pediatric patients with CIDP, aged 8-12, highlighting differences in initial symptoms, treatment responses, and relapse patterns.
  • Despite all patients receiving corticosteroids and immunoglobulin treatments, their clinical courses varied significantly in terms of severity and frequency of relapses.

Eosinophilic fasciitis is a rare disease characterized by diffuse fasciitis with peripheral eosinophilia and progressive induration and thickening of the skin and soft tissues. We report a 19-year-old female who presented with pitting edema in both lower extremities. She had a history of excessive physical activity before her symptoms developed.

An economic evaluation of ethanol (EtOH) production from a thermo-chemical process derived from biomass/waste feedstocks was conducted. The influence of feed amounts, catalytic conversions, and EtOH selling prices was examined as these are the major variables for the economic evaluation of biomass/wastes conversion to EtOH. Among the three feedstock systems of biomass, high-moisture municipal solid waste (MSW), and plastic waste, the plastic waste has far better economic feasibility, with a payback period of 2-5 years at maximum CO conversion (40%) from syngas to ethanol, due to its higher heating value in comparison with biomass and high-moisture MSW.

A new multifunctional oligosaccharide label with a 1 degree amino-group was synthesized and characterized. The oligosaccharide label was introduced into several neutral oligosaccharides by reductive amination, and the derivatives were analyzed by matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization (MALDI) time-of-flight (TOF) and by electrospray ionization (ESI) mass spectrometry. It was demonstrated that the labeling reaction was satisfactory, and that as little as 50 pmol of starting material could be efficiently labeled with minimal loss to side reactions.
