Paeoniflorin-6'-O-benzene sulfonate (CP-25) is a new ester derivative of paeoniflorin with improved lipid solubility and oral bioavailability, as well as better anti-inflammatory activity than its parent compound. In this study we explored whether CP-25 exerted therapeutic effects in collagen-induced arthritis (CIA) mice through regulating B-cell activating factor (BAFF)-BAFF receptors-mediated signaling pathways. CIA mice were given CP-25 or injected with biological agents rituximab or etanercept for 40 days.

Ion-molecule complex dynamics as well as water dynamics in concentrated lithium chloride (LiCl) solutions are examined using ultrafast two-dimensional infrared (2D IR) spectroscopy with the CN stretching mode of methyl thiocyanate (MeSCN) as the vibrational probe. In pure water, MeSCN has a narrow symmetric absorption line shape. 2D IR spectral diffusion measurements of the CN stretch give the identical time dependence of water dynamics, as previously observed using the OD stretch of HOD in HO.

The objective of this work is to develop a low-cost compact desktop NMR system based on Halbach magnets with the advantages of small size and ability to generate relatively high field strength. Considering the cost of manufacturing and assembling the magnetic blocks, the system utilized a 3-layer Halbach magnet and a wedge-shaped mechanical structure, which was designed for magnet rapid assembling. The comparison between simulation and calculation results of the initial magnetic field strength distribution showed that design theory and practice were in accordance.

Polymeric hydrogels have wide applications including electrophoresis, biocompatible materials, water superadsorbents, and contact lenses. The properties of hydrogels involve the poorly characterized molecular dynamics of water and solutes trapped within the three-dimensional cross-linked polymer networks. Here we apply ultrafast two-dimensional infrared (2D IR) vibrational echo and polarization-selective pump-probe (PSPP) spectroscopies to investigate the ultrafast molecular dynamics of water and a small molecular anion solute, selenocyanate (SeCN), in polyacrylamide hydrogels.

Esophageal cancer (EC) is the 6th leading cause of cancer mortality worldwide with poor prognosis, hence more effective chemotherapeutic drugs for this deadly disease are urgently needed. We previously reported that high expression of Orai1, a store-operated Caentry (SOCE) channel, was associated with poor survival rate in EC patients and Orai1-mediated intracellular Ca oscillations regulated cancer cell proliferation. Previous studies suggested that Orai1-mediated SOCE is a promising target for EC chemotherapy.

Efficacy and safety assessments are essential thresholds for drug candidates from preclinical to clinical research. Conventional mammalian in vivo models cannot offer rapid pharmacological and toxicological screening, whereas cell-based or cell-free in vitro systems often lead to inaccurate results because of the lack of physiological environment. Within the avian species, gallus gallus is the first bird to have its genome sequencing.
