Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a global health concern with spatial disparities, especially in disadvantaged neighborhoods. This study aimed to examine the association between area-level socioeconomic deprivation, the availability of medical resources in disadvantaged areas such as the Cijin district, and the prevalence of MetS in Taiwan. We used two representative secondary cross-sectional datasets, including physical examinations and lifestyle surveys from 2016 to 2020, sourced from the Taiwan Biobank and the Cijin District Adult Lifestyle and Health Survey.

Turner syndrome (TS) predominantly affects females who have a partial or complete loss of one X chromosome. Our understanding of the role that granulosa cells (GCs) play in TS disease progression and pathogenesis remains limited.

Exercise has been demonstrated to improve pain and function in people with knee OA. However, when in pain, commencement of exercise is difficult, and clinical effects with such interventions are often modest.

This study aims to explore the role of the insula in mediating treatment responses to high-frequency repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) targeting the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC).
Methods: Twenty-five patients with either bipolar disorder (BD, n = 15) or major depressive disorder (MDD, n = 10) were recruited.
This is the eighth annual summary of the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation International Consensus on Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Emergency Cardiovascular Care Science With Treatment Recommendations; a more comprehensive review was done in 2020. This latest summary addresses the most recent published resuscitation evidence reviewed by the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation task force science experts. Members from 6 International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation task forces have assessed, discussed, and debated the quality of the evidence, using Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation criteria, and their statements include consensus treatment recommendations.

Very limited research has evaluated shortened lifespan in depression using life-years-lost (LYLs), a recently developed mortality metric taking into account the illness onset for life expectancy estimation. Temporal trends of differential mortality gap are understudied.

This study aimed to design a promising nanoplatform with efficient tumor targeting and penetration capability for effective breast cancer therapy.
Methods: A pH-sensitive mitoxantrone (MTO) and copper ion-loaded nanosystem functionalized with cyclic CRGDfK and r9 peptide (TPRN-CM) was rationally designed for chemo-chemodynamic combination therapy.
Background: The primary treatment of femoral neck fracture in young adults is internal fixation. The high complication rate after femoral neck fracture greatly affects the life of patients. There are many internal fixation devices for femoral neck fracture, but each has its advantages and disadvantages.

Method: Using a prospective cohort design, the electronic health records of newly diagnosed NPC patients from a medical center in Taiwan (from January 1, 2018, to March 31, 2024) were analyzed. A total of 73 newly diagnosed NPC patients were tracked; nutritional indicators such as body mass index (BMI), prealbumin levels, and Patient-Generated Subjective Global Assessment (PG-SGA) scores were recorded at four time points: one week before treatment, the first week of treatment, and four and eight weeks after treatment began.
This retrospective observational study investigated to determine whether surgery or chemoradiation therapy after induction chemotherapy leads to better swallow function for oropharyngeal cancer patients. We documented the treatment paths and results of 267 patients with oropharyngeal squamous cell cancer (OPSCC). By quantifying nasogastric (NG) tube usage, surgery after induction chemotherapy (IC-surgery), and chemoradiation therapy after induction chemotherapy (IC-CRT) could be compared to determine the effectiveness of each.

In 115 propensity score-matched PCDS case-control pairs, pathway analyses implicated dysregulation of fatty acid metabolism and inflammation in PCDS pathogenesis. Sex-specific associations were observed, with disruptions in central carbon metabolism (elevated PKM, MDH1, and GAPDH; decreased MINPP1) and tyrosine metabolism (decreased MIF, DBH; increased thyroxine) characterizing in men.

Psoriasis, a chronic autoimmune skin condition with significant global morbidity, badly impairs patients' quality of life. Stress has been identified as a prominent trigger for psoriasis, and effectively management of stress can ameliorate its pathological manifestations. However, the precise mechanisms by which stress influences psoriasis remain elusive.

This reaction represents a C(sp)-C(sp) coupling and features simplicity, high efficiency, and wide substrate scope in a multiple-step sequential process, which involves N-F homolysis, 1,5-hydrogen atom transfer, benzylic radical addition, oxidation by copper(II) salt, and removal of the trimethylsilyl group. Also, DFT theoretical calculations and Marcus theory were employed to consolidate the proposed reaction mechanism.

Multiomics approaches integrate single-cell RNA-sequencing (scRNA-seq) and spatiotemporal transcriptomics (ST) offering potential for dissecting transcriptional networks and revealing cell-cell interactions involved in biomolecular pathomechanisms. Herein, a multimodal approach is demonstrated combining high-throughput scRNA-seq and ST to elucidate XLRS-specific transcriptomic signatures in two XLRS-like models with retinal splitting phenotypes, including genetically engineered (Rs1) mice and patient-derived retinal organoids harboring the same patient-specific p.

Clinically available imaging is frequently relied upon despite limited sensitivity. We conducted a prospective pilot study comparing diffusion kurtosis imaging (DKI)-MRI and somatosensory evoked potentials (SSEPs) in comatose survivors of CA to investigate the benefit of utilizing higher diffusion b-values to enhance prediction of arousal recovery.

Suppression of ADAR1 overcomes immunotherapy resistance in preclinical models, but has not yet been translated to clinical settings. By conducting a screening of a subset of the FDA-approved drugs, we found that all-trans retinoic acid (ATRA, also known as tretinoin) caused ADAR1 protein degradation through ubiquitin-proteasome pathways and concomitantly increased PD-L1 expression in pancreatic and breast cancers.

The split large ribosome subunits can continue elongating stalled polypeptides. In yeast, this mRNA-independent translation appends the C-terminal alanine/threonine tail (CAT tail) to stalled polypeptides.
