Pseudorabies virus (PRV) is the pathogenic agent of pseudorabies, causing serious reproductive failure in swine. However, it is still unknown whether PRV uterine inoculation impairs blastocyst implantation. In the present study, a PRV infection mouse model was developed.

Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a global health concern with spatial disparities, especially in disadvantaged neighborhoods. This study aimed to examine the association between area-level socioeconomic deprivation, the availability of medical resources in disadvantaged areas such as the Cijin district, and the prevalence of MetS in Taiwan. We used two representative secondary cross-sectional datasets, including physical examinations and lifestyle surveys from 2016 to 2020, sourced from the Taiwan Biobank and the Cijin District Adult Lifestyle and Health Survey.

Relationship between changes in nutritional status during treatment and overall survival of newly diagnosed nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients.

Purpose: This study investigates the relationship between changes in nutritional status during treatment and overall survival in NPC patients.

Method: Using a prospective cohort design, the electronic health records of newly diagnosed NPC patients from a medical center in Taiwan (from January 1, 2018, to March 31, 2024) were analyzed. A total of 73 newly diagnosed NPC patients were tracked; nutritional indicators such as body mass index (BMI), prealbumin levels, and Patient-Generated Subjective Global Assessment (PG-SGA) scores were recorded at four time points: one week before treatment, the first week of treatment, and four and eight weeks after treatment began.

Proteo-metabolomic insights for early dual physical and cognitive impairments: A search for biomarkers of healthy aging based on muscle-brain crosstalk.

We employed an untargeted proteo-metabolomic approach to profile circulating biomarkers in plasma samples from the I-Lan Longitudinal Aging Study, aiming to identify biomarkers and pathways associated with physio-cognitive decline syndrome (PCDS). In 115 propensity score-matched PCDS case-control pairs, pathway analyses implicated dysregulation of fatty acid metabolism and inflammation in PCDS pathogenesis. Sex-specific associations were observed, with disruptions in central carbon metabolism (elevated PKM, MDH1, and GAPDH; decreased MINPP1) and tyrosine metabolism (decreased MIF, DBH; increased thyroxine) characterizing in men.

We have developed an ultrasound-assisted remote benzylic C(sp)-H alkylation of -fluorobenzamides with enol silanes; a series of β-aryl substituted propiophenones was generated in good to high yields. This reaction represents a C(sp)-C(sp) coupling and features simplicity, high efficiency, and wide substrate scope in a multiple-step sequential process, which involves N-F homolysis, 1,5-hydrogen atom transfer, benzylic radical addition, oxidation by copper(II) salt, and removal of the trimethylsilyl group. Also, DFT theoretical calculations and Marcus theory were employed to consolidate the proposed reaction mechanism.

All-trans retinoic acid-mediated ADAR1 degradation synergizes with PD-1 blockade to suppress pancreatic cancer.

As a double-stranded RNA-editing enzyme and an interferon-stimulated gene, double-stranded RNA-specific adenosine deaminase (ADAR1) suppresses interferon signaling and contributes to immunotherapy resistance. Suppression of ADAR1 overcomes immunotherapy resistance in preclinical models, but has not yet been translated to clinical settings. By conducting a screening of a subset of the FDA-approved drugs, we found that all-trans retinoic acid (ATRA, also known as tretinoin) caused ADAR1 protein degradation through ubiquitin-proteasome pathways and concomitantly increased PD-L1 expression in pancreatic and breast cancers.
