A National Cancer Institute consensus study on prioritization of cancer antigens ranked the Wilms tumor 1 (WT1) protein as the top immunotherapy target in cancer. We previously reported a pilot study of a multivalent WT1 peptide vaccine (galinpepimut-S) in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) patients. We have now conducted a phase 2 study investigating this vaccine in adults with AML in first complete remission (CR1).

However, it is unclear what impact these changes have on bone mineral density (BMD). We prospectively analayzed levels of osteocalcin, a marker of bone formation secreted by osteoblasts, and serum N-telopeptide of type I collagen (NTX), a marker of bone resorption, as well as other minerals involved in bone metabolism in 19 patients with either CML or GIST We correlated these results with changes in bone mineral density as measured by serial dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) scans over a two year period.

To increase the potency of the antibody without the nonspecific cytotoxicity associated with β-emitters, the α-particle-emitting radionuclide bismuth-213 ((213)Bi) was conjugated to lintuzumab. This phase I/II trial was conducted to determine the maximum tolerated dose (MTD) and antileukemic effects of (213)Bi-lintuzumab, the first targeted α-emitter, after partially cytoreductive chemotherapy.

We here investigated whether angptl4 mRNA 1) could be a useful diagnostic and/or prognostic marker of ccRCC in a large and comprehensive retrospective series, 2) induction is dependent on the VHL status of tumors.
Methodology/principal Findings: Using in situ hybridization, we report that angptl4 mRNA is expressed in 100% of both sporadic (n = 102) and inherited (n = 6) primary ccRCCs, without any statistical association with nuclear grade (p = 0.
A pilot study was undertaken to assess the safety, activity, and immunogenicity of a polyvalent Wilms tumor gene 1 (WT1) peptide vaccine in patients with acute myeloid leukemia in complete remission but with molecular evidence of WT1 transcript. Patients received 6 vaccinations with 4 WT1 peptides (200 microg each) plus immune adjuvants over 12 weeks. Immune responses were evaluated by delayed-type hypersensitivity, CD4+ T-cell proliferation, CD3+ T-cell interferon-gamma release, and WT1 peptide tetramer staining.

We observed that hypophosphatemia developed in some patients with either chronic myelogenous leukemia or gastrointestinal stromal tumors who were receiving imatinib.
Methods: We identified 16 patients who had low serum phosphate levels and 8 patients who had normal serum phosphate levels, all of whom were receiving imatinib.
Objective: D-lactate is the dextrorotatory form of L-lactate. L-lactate is the isomer routinely tested in clinical practice to assess cell hypoxemia. D-lactate has been recently proposed as a specific marker of gut ischemia-reperfusion (IR), particularly after surgery for ruptured aortic aneurysms.

We designed a pilot study to target DNA methylation and histone deacetylation through the sequential administration of 5-azacytidine followed by sodium phenylbutyrate (PB) in patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) or myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS). Ten evaluable patients (eight AML, two MDS) were treated with seven consecutive daily subcutaneous injections of 5-azacytidine at 75 mg/m2 followed by 5 days of sodium PB given intravenously at a dose of 200 mg/kg.

We report the unusual occurrence of a neuroendocrine prostatic tumor in two young males with multiple endocrine neoplasia (MEN) 2B. Immunohistochemistry of the tumor markers may help differentiate a primary neuroendocrine prostate tumor from the metastasis of a medullary thyroid carcinoma of poor prognosis. MEN 2B hallmarks (i.

We conducted a phase I trial of ILX23-7553, a formulation of 1,25-dihydroxy-16-ene-23-yne-vitamin D(3), a 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D(3) analog with preclinically demonstrated antitumor and differentiating effects and diminished hypercalcemic effects.
Patients And Methods: The protocol consisted of five daily oral treatments during 14-day cycles at 15 dose levels from 1.

Objective: We report a case of cricoid chondroma, underlining the difficulty in establishing a precise differential diagnosis between chondroma and low-grade chondrosarcoma of the larynx.
Material And Methods: A 48-year-old woman developed inspiratory dyspnea. The final diagnosis was cricoid chondroma.
A case of synchronous adenocarcinoma of lung and extranodal marginal zone/low-grade B-cell lymphoma of mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) is reported. Primary pulmonary non-Hodgkin's lymphoma is relatively rare, however, the majority of these lesions are low-grade B-cell lymphomas of MALT. After the stomach, the lung is the second most common location for such latter lesions.

Treatment of APL patients with all-trans RA is commonly associated with leukocytosis, and approximately 50% of patients develop the RA syndrome. We reviewed our clinical experience with arsenic trioxide to determine the incidence of these two phenomena.

This study evaluated the effects of equianesthetic concentrations of desflurane, sevoflurane, isoflurane, and halothane on contractile parameters of isolated human atria in vitro.
Methods: Human right atrial trabeculae, obtained from patients undergoing coronary bypass surgery, were studied in an oxygenated (95% O2-5% CO2) Tyrode's modified solution ([Ca2+]o = 2.
A new and efficient safe system for the purification of the penicillin acylase from Escherichia coli G271 is presented. It was found that after a selective precipitation with ammnonium sulphate, followed by two chromatographic steps (anion exchange followed by adsorption on hydroxyapatite support), the enzyme was enriched 98 times with a 100% activity recovery. An original way has also been used to study the chromatographic separation of the protein mixture in three major categories on DEAE resin, by an analysis of the concentrations of the different species in the breakthrough curve obtained from a complete saturation of the column.
