Rapid mixing and precise timing are key for accurate biomedical assay measurement, particularly when the result is determined as the rate of a reaction: for example rapid immunoassay in which the amount of captured target is kinetically determined; determination of the concentration of an enzyme or enzyme substrate; or as the final stage in any procedure that involves a capture reagent when an enzyme reaction is used as the indicator. Rapid mixing and precise timing are however difficult to achieve in point-of-care devices designed for small sample volumes and fast time to result. By using centrifugal microfluidics and transposing the reaction surface from a chamber to a single mm-scale bead we demonstrate an elegant and easily manufacturable solution.

Mechanistic steps, chemoselectivity with higher functional group tolerance by employing transition metal-based chiral catalysts (Ir-, Rh-, Ni-, Ru-, Fe-, Mn-, Pd-, Co-, and Zn-based organometallic chiral complexes), and biocatalysts and their importance on the genesis of chirality coupled with higher turnover numbers are also described.

A 67-year-old woman experienced pruritus, an urticarial rash, and acute, pressure-like chest pain following an insect sting. Initial electrocardiographic findings were notable for ST-segment elevations in the inferior leads without reciprocal changes, but a follow-up electrocardiogram showed pronounced ST-segment elevations in the inferior leads with reciprocal changes. Synthesis of a series of new urea and thiourea compounds have been accomplished by the reaction of 2,3-dihydro-1-inden-1-amine with various phenyl isocyanates and isothiocyanates. These compounds were evaluated for their antioxidant activity by using 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical and nitric oxide (NO) radical scavenging assay methods including IC values. Some of the compounds exhibited potential activity in the two tested methods.

A series of new urea/thiourea derivatives 3a-j were synthesized by simple addition reaction of functionalized phenyl isocyanates/isothiocyanates 2a-j with N-(5-amino-2-methylphenyl)-4-(3-pyridyl)-2-pyrimidinamine (imatinib intermediate) (1) in the presence of 1,4-dimethyl piperazine (DMPZ) as a base, and another series of new sulfonamide/carbamate derivatives 5a-k were synthesized by reacting 1 with various substituted aromatic sulfonyl chlorides 4a-f and aromatic/aliphatic chloroformates 4g-k in the presence of DMPZ as a base. The title compounds 3a-j and 5a-k were characterized by IR, H, C NMR and mass spectral data. Antimicrobial, antioxidant and in silico molecular docking studies were made against aromatase.

The present work attempts to develop and statistically optimize transfersomes containing EGCG and hyaluronic acid to synergize the UV radiation-protective ability of both compounds, along with imparting antioxidant and anti-aging effects. Transfersomes were prepared by thin film hydration technique, using soy phosphatidylcholine and sodium cholate, combined with high-pressure homogenization. They were characterized with respect to size, polydispersity index, zeta potential, morphology, entrapment efficiency, Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), X-ray Diffraction (XRD), in vitro antioxidant activity and ex vivo skin permeation studies.
