Cananginones, a family of linear acetogenins found as secondary metabolites in the plant kingdom, show cytotoxicity against several types of cancer cells. We aimed to investigate the efficacy of cananginone and its mechanism as an anti-cancer agent. Our initial screening of Cananginone against HepG2, PC3, A549, and MCF7 cells showed anti-cancer activities and is more potent against MCF7 cells, consistent with the previous report.

Citrate based sol–gel method is used to synthesize Gd₂O₃:RE³⁺ and GdAlO₃:RE³⁺ (RE = Eu, Dy) phosphors. In the present work, the phosphors are characterized using the techniques like X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS) and photoluminescence spectroscopy (PL). Fluorescence confocal microscopy reveals the potential usage of phosphors in biological medium for biolabeling application.

An optical-fiber based evanescent ammonia vapor sensor was constructed with surface-passivated growth of zinc oxide (ZnO) nanostructures, which was achieved through a three-step wet chemical process. Initially, the ZnO nanostructures were synthesized using a wet-chemical method and subsequently surface-passivated with chalcogenide material compounds namely cadmium sulphide (CdS) and cadmium selenide (CdSe) nanoparticles individually using a citric acid assisted chemical synthesis technique. Finally, surface-passivated ZnO was deposited on the cladding modified optical-fiber using a dip coating process.

The present study was aimed to evaluate the effect of apigenin 8-C-glucoside (Vitexin) and chlorogenic acid on epileptic mice induced by pilocarpine and explored its possible mechanisms. Intraperitonial administration of pilocarpine (85mg/kg) induced seizure in mice was assessed by behavior observations, which is significantly (p>0.05) reduced by apigenin 8-C-glucoside (AP8CG) (10mg/kg) and chlorogenic acid (CA) (5mg/kg), similar to diazepam.

The photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue (MB) dye in aqueous solution was investigated using hexagonal molybdenum oxide (h-MoO3) nanocrystals under visible light irradiation. Chemical precipitation method was utilized to synthesize h-MoO3 and control over the crystal size, shape and distribution were characterized by using HNO3 and HCl as precipitating reagents. The photocatalysts were examined through X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectrum (EDX) for structural, functional, surface morphology and elemental analysis, respectively.

Microbial media has undergone several changes since its inception but some key challenges remain. In recent years, there has been exploration of several alternative nutrient sources, both to cater to the specificity in requirement of growth of "fussy microorganisms" and also to reduce costs for large-scale fermentation that is required for biotechnology. A detailed study on visible light photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue (MB) has been investigated in aqueous heterogeneous media containing hexagonal phase molybdenum oxide (h-MoO3) nanocrystals (NCs) which was identified as a new material for visible light driven photocatalysis. A simple and template-free solution based chemical precipitation method was employed to synthesize h-MoO3 NCs by reacting ammonium heptamolybdate tetrahydrate (AHM) with nitric acid. The formation and growth mechanism of h-MoO3 microstructures was explained.

In this report, hydrothermal synthesis and the absorption properties of the cubic shaped zinc oxide nanostructures doped with different amount of yttrium (Y) metal cation (0 to 15 at.%) are demonstrated. We analysed the results of 24 cases of aggressive benign and malignant tumours of the distal radius treated by resection and prosthetic replacement between 1995 and 2006. Patient ages ranged from 18 to 74 years, averaging 33 years; 18 were males. Recurrent giant cell tumour was the most common tumour.
