Aim: The aim of this study was to assess the safety and efficacy profile of a newer generation biodegradable DES, the Yukon Choice PC Elite with a temperature controlling mechanism, in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS).

Methods: This prospective multi-center study (PIONEER Registry) was conducted in an Indian ACS population, therefore providing data in real world clinical practice. Patients with ACS underwent DES implantation in de novo native-vessel coronary lesions with the Yukon Choice PC Elite biodegradable polymer DES and were followed up for a year.

In cells, organs and whole organisms, nutrient sensing is key to maintaining homeostasis and adapting to a fluctuating environment. In many animals, nutrient sensors are found within the enteroendocrine cells of the digestive system; however, less is known about nutrient sensing in their cellular siblings, the absorptive enterocytes. Here we use a genetic screen in Drosophila melanogaster to identify Hodor, an ionotropic receptor in enterocytes that sustains larval development, particularly in nutrient-scarce conditions.

Background: To determine the prevalence of peripheral retinal degenerations (PRD) and rhegmatogenous retinal detachment in patients with primary congenital glaucoma (PCG).

Methods: Records of all patients with PCG operated from year 2000 onwards were evaluated to look for the prevalence of rhegmatogenous retinal detachment. Of these, those children who were old enough to cooperate and had sufficient medial clarity were screened with an indirect ophthalmoscopy in a cross-sectional evaluation from 2010 to 2014.

Purpose: To assess intra- and subretinal fluid during the loading phase with intravitreal ranibizumab in exudative age-related macular degeneration and to quantify the accuracy of crosshair scan spectral-domain optical coherence tomography with regard to retinal fluid.

Methods: This is a retrospective study of 31 treatment-naive patients who received 3 monthly intravitreal ranibizumab injections. Visual acuity and the presence of retinal fluid were assessed at each visit using volume and crosshair scan protocols.

A 25-year-old woman was diagnosed with anaemic retinopathy following Plasmodium falciparum malaria. The serial clinical and spectral domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) changes are described, including sub-internal limiting membrane (sub-ILM) haemorrhage at the macula with the formation of a corresponding sub-ILM cavity evident on SD-OCT. The patient was managed conservatively and showed complete recovery of fundus and SD-OCT changes after one year.

Congenital ectropion uveae (CEU) is a rare, non progressive anomaly characterised by the presence of iris pigment epithelium on the anterior surface and is frequently associated with anterior iris insertion, dysgenesis of the drainage angle and glaucoma. This paper describes an unusual case of bilateral congenital ectropion uveae with iris coloboma and telecanthus. The anterior chamber angle was normal and there was no evidence of glaucoma.

Syndecan (Sdc) is a conserved transmembrane heparan sulfate proteoglycan (HSPG) bearing additional chondroitin sulfate (CS) modifications on its extracellular domain. In vertebrates, this extracellular domain of Sdc is shed and acts as a soluble effector of cellular communication events, and its cytoplasmic domain participates in intracellular signaling needed to maintain epithelial integrity. In Drosophila, Sdc has been shown to be necessary for Slit signaling-dependent axon and myotube guidance during CNS development and muscle pattern formation.

During Drosophila embryogenesis, the attachment of somatic muscles to epidermal tendon cells requires heterodimeric PS-integrin proteins (alpha- and beta-subunits). The alpha-subunits are expressed complementarily, either tendon cell- or muscle-specific, whereas the beta-integrin subunit is expressed in both tissues. Mutations of beta-integrin cause a severe muscle detachment phenotype, whereas alpha-subunit mutations have weaker or only larval muscle detachment phenotypes.
