We report a rare case of confirmed early neurosyphilis with serofast state in HIV-negative patient, with uncontrolled type 2 diabetes mellitus. Syphilitic meningitis was diagnosed initially on serology and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) analysis. The patient had persistently raised non-treponemal titres on serum with negative CSF venereal disease research laboratory result, following treatment during 3 years of follow-up.

FMS-related tyrosine kinase 3 ligand (FLT3L), encoded by FLT3LG, is a hematopoietic factor essential for the development of natural killer (NK) cells, B cells, and dendritic cells (DCs) in mice. We describe three humans homozygous for a loss-of-function FLT3LG variant with a history of various recurrent infections, including severe cutaneous warts. The patients' bone marrow (BM) was hypoplastic, with low levels of hematopoietic progenitors, particularly myeloid and B cell precursors.

Article Synopsis
  • * A study of 120 patients showed that 36% achieved complete cutaneous remission after one year, with oral corticosteroids and a hydroxychloroquine/topical steroids combo yielding the best results.
  • * The findings suggest using hydroxychloroquine and topical steroids as the best first-line treatment due to the negative side effects associated with systemic corticosteroids, with lupus pernio being a predictor of poor response.

In France, about 2000 new cases of anal cancer are diagnosed annually. Squamous cell carcinoma is the most common histological type, mostly occurring secondary to persistent HPV16 infection. Invasive cancer is preceded by precancerous lesions.

Research in children points to aerobic fitness as a source of individual differences in academic achievement. By examining the indirect effects of executive functions (EF) and intelligence on the relationship between aerobic fitness and academic achievement, the present study provides novel insight about the cognitive mechanisms underlying this relationship. 218 children (8-10 years) completed the following assessments: (i) a VOmax test to assess aerobic fitness; (ii) four tasks tapping components of EF (i.

A questionnaire that can properly measure communal coping in sport is required to further investigate and understand how individuals in a team collectively cope with stressful sport situations. The Communal Coping Strategies Inventory for Competitive Team Sports (CCSICTS; Leprince et al., 2019) needed to be validated at the collective level and in its situational form to be used in broader sport situations.

The multicomponent nature of executive functions (EF) has long been recognized, pushing for a better understanding of both the commonalities and the diversity between EF components. Despite the advances made, the operationalization of performance in EF tasks remains rather heterogeneous, and the structure of EF as modeled by confirmatory factor analyses (CFA) is still a topic of debate (Karr et al., 2018).

The aim of this study was to investigate the level of specificity of the different regulation types described by Self-Determination Theory, and to evaluate its impact on the links with its antecedents and consequences, in an academic context. In line with the school-subject-specificity hypothesis, we postulated that autonomous motivation types (AM types) would be more specific to the situational level than controlled motivation types (CM types). Moreover, we hypothesized that AM types would be, at this level, more strongly associated with its antecedents and consequences than CM types.

The impact of emotion on executive functioning is gaining interest. It has led to the differentiation of "cool" Executive Functioning (EF) processes, such as cognitive flexibility, and "hot" EF processes, such as affective flexibility. But how does affective flexibility, the ability to switch between cognitive and affective information, vary as a function of age and sex? How does this construct relate to "cool" executive functioning and cognitive-emotion regulation processes? In this study, 266 participants, including 91 adolescents ( = 16.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the indirect effects of cardiorespiratory fitness on scholastic performance through executive functions. More precisely, we examined the contribution of the different domains of executive functions, and whether this relationship was specific to certain school topics.

Methods: Children 8-12 yr old completed nine cognitive tests and the multistage fitness test.

Objectives: Immunoglobulin A vasculitis (IgAV) is a small-vessel vasculitis most frequently benign in children while more severe in adults. We aimed to study the impact of age on presentation and outcome of adult IgAV.

Methods: We conducted a nationwide retrospective study including 260 IgAV patients.

Objective: IgA vasculitis (IgAV) frequently occurs during or after a mucosal infection; it also rarely occurs in patients with cancer. We hypothesized that cancer could impact the baseline characteristics and/or outcome of vasculitis. We aimed to describe the presentation of IgAV in patients with cancer (IgAV ca+) compared to patients without cancer.

Article Synopsis
  • Benzathine penicillin G (BPG) is the standard treatment for early syphilis, but recent shortages have prompted the need for alternative therapies.
  • A study in France assessed genetic resistance of the syphilis-causing bacteria, Treponema pallidum, to macrolides and doxycycline using swabs from 146 patients.
  • Results showed a high level of macrolide resistance (85% of samples), while no resistance to doxycycline was found, suggesting doxycycline is a viable substitute for BPG in treating early syphilis.

The aim of the present study was to examine the implication of the differences in autonomous and controlled motivation specificity in their relationships with student's grades. The school-subject-specificity hypothesis postulates that the more autonomous the regulation is, the more specific to a school subject it is. 579 junior high school children were asked to complete a questionnaire assessing their motivation at the academic level as well as at the situational level (i.

Background: This study explores the links between measures of motivation based on Self-Determination Theory, and physical activity (PA) indicators assessed with accelerometers during physical education lessons.

Methods: Questionnaires about motivation and psychological needs on the context of physical education were completed by 319 middle high school students, up to 5 times within a 2-year period; they were equipped with an accelerometer and videotaped during a physical education lesson. PA-related indicators were computed considering the entire duration of the lessons (strategy 1), but also retaining only active times during the lesson (strategy 2).

Purpose: Like all surgical procedures, dorsal nasal flaps may be followed by both early and late complications. The aim of this study was to evaluate the surgical complications and cosmetic outcome of dorsal nasal flaps over a 7-year period in an academic dermatologic surgery unit.

Patients And Methods: Data were collected retrospectively for all patients undergoing dorsal nasal flap between 1 January 2006 and 31 December 2013.

Article Synopsis
  • Diabetes leads to diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN), causing changes in peripheral nerves, and this study focuses on the roles of liver X receptor (LXR) signaling and NADPH oxidase-4 (Nox4) in its development.
  • Research using diabetic mouse models and human skin samples shows that reduced LXR and increased Nox4 are linked to nerve damage and myelin gene expression issues in both type 1 and type 2 diabetes.
  • Activating LXR or inhibiting Nox4 improves nerve function and restores important myelin proteins, indicating that targeting this LXR/Nox4 pathway could be a new treatment strategy for DPN.

Background: Programmed cell death protein-1 (PD-1) inhibitors (pembrolizumab and nivolumab) have been approved for the treatment of advanced melanoma. Over the past decades, patients older than 85 years represent an expanding group of patients in developed countries. In France, 25% of melanomas are diagnosed in patients older than 75 years.
