Finding an optimal device structure in the vast combinatorial design space of freeform nanophotonic design has been an enormous challenge. In this study, we propose physics-informed reinforcement learning (PIRL) that combines the adjoint-based method with reinforcement learning to improve the sample efficiency by an order of magnitude compared to conventional reinforcement learning and overcome the issue of local minima. To illustrate these advantages of PIRL over other conventional optimization algorithms, we design a family of one-dimensional metasurface beam deflectors using PIRL, exceeding most reported records.

We propose a topological coherent perfect absorber that enables almost ideal performance with remarkably compact device footprint and tight incident beams. The proposed structure is based on a topological junction of two guided-mode-resonance gratings. Although vitamin C is one of the most important antioxidants, its effect on muscle quality is not fully understood. Therefore, we hypothesized that low dietary vitamin C intake is associated with low muscle strength. To test the hypothesis, a single 24-h dietary recall and handgrip strength test of 10,883 younger adults 19-64 y and 3,961 older adults ≥65 y from the seventh Korea National Health and Examination Survey (KNHANES VII 2016-2018) was analyzed by multivariable linear and logistic regression models, and low muscle strength was defined as handgrip strength <28 kg for men and <18 kg for women.
