Background And Purpose: Limited evidence exists for dose escalation in neoadjuvant short course radiotherapy (SCRT) for rectal cancer. With enhanced imaging and radiotherapy techniques over the past decades along with the valuable endpoint of pathological complete response (pCR), we believe SCRT with simultaneous integrated boost could potentially provide deeper pathological responses and improve local control.
Methods And Materials: Between January 2020 and December 2022, locoregional-advanced rectal cancer patients that were treated with neoadjuvant SCRT with simultaneous integrated boost up to 5.
Background: Child abuse in Taiwan is a major societal concern that severely affects the well-being of children. Despite the complexity in detecting abuse, reports of child abuse are increasing, evidenced by a rise in cases and heightened awareness. This study utilizes judicial judgments as a lens to understand the varied interpretations of child abuse by clinical and forensic experts and explores the broader epidemiological trends of such abuse within the declining youth population of Taiwan.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFFish allergy is a significant health concern, with diagnosis and management complicated by diverse fish species and allergens. We conducted a comprehensive RNA-seq analysis of eight fish species to identify allergen profiles, integrating ImmunoCAP sIgE data to explore associations with allergen expression and diagnostic performance. Over 30 putative fish allergens were identified, with varying sequence similarities and expression levels, roughly classifying fish into two groups based on parvalbumin (PV) expression.

We describe the first examples of breast capsular contracture amelioration using a non-surgical, transdermal treatment with platelet-rich plasma. The treated patients did not experience any complications or significant pain. This report illustrates the potential of a non-invasive treatment option for a common complication of breast augmentation.

Purpose: The association between serum vitamin D level and cataract remains controversial. This study aims to evaluate the association between vitamin D level and cataract.
Methods: In this study, articles in the PubMed, Web of Science, and EMBASE databases were searched up to 30 August 2023 and 626 articles were screened.
Introduction: Advance medical directives (AMD) are statements made by individuals indicating the life-sustaining treatment that they would refuse in the future when they lost their mental capacity for medical decisions. While the proposal for the AMD legislation is ongoing locally in Hong Kong SAR, there are limited reviews on the clinical outcomes associated with it.
Objective: To provide a comprehensive review on clinical outcomes of signed AMD.

Purpose: To evaluate the mid-term clinical outcomes for the non-surgical and surgical management of acute proximal hamstring avulsions.
Methods: Sixty physically active individuals were offered surgical or non-surgical management for their proximal hamstring avulsion injuries. Distal retraction was defined as greater than 2 cm.
Background: As the antimicrobial resistance (AMR) problem accelerates, humans and animals are suffering from the consequences of infections with diminishing antimicrobial treatment options. Within the One Medicine and One Health mandate, which denotes a collaborative, multisectoral, and transdisciplinary approach to improve medicine and health across human and animal sectors, we investigate how human and veterinary medical practitioners apply their medical and policy knowledge in prescribing antimicrobials. Different regions and locations establish different intermediary policies and programs to support clinicians in that pursuit.

Methods: We conducted chart reviews of patients with ≥ 2 age-adjusted quick Sequential Organ Failure Assessment score (qSOFA) criteria to recognize patients with an infectious disease in two tertiary PEDs between January 1, 2021, and April 30, 2022. The age range of included patients was 1 month to 18 years.
Dasatinib is one of the second generation tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKI) which is approved for the treatment of patients with chronic phase CML (CP-CML) both in the front line and in the second line setting. Pleural effusion (PE) is a unique toxicity associated with dasatinib use. Our aim was to study the incidence of pleural effusion in our cohort of patients who were treated with dasatinib for CP-CML and the safety upon TKI switch.

The study aimed to investigate predicting factors for acute encephalopathy of children infected by SARS-CoV-2 Omicron variant presenting with febrile seizures.
Methods: The retrospective study analyzed data from pediatric patients who visited the emergency department of Chang Gung Memorial Hospital in Taiwan between April and July 2022.
Background: Facial weakness is a key feature of facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy (FSHD) and may lead to altered facial expression and subsequent psychosocial impairment. There is no cure and supportive treatments focus on optimizing physical fitness and compensation of functional disabilities.
Objective: We hypothesize that symptomatic treatment options and psychosocial interventions for other neurological diseases with altered facial expression could be applicable to FSHD.
Elevated levels of somatostatin blunt glucagon counterregulation during hypoglycemia in type 1 diabetes (T1D) and this can be improved using somatostatin receptor 2 (SSTR2) antagonists. Hypoglycemia also occurs in late-stage type 2 diabetes (T2D), particularly when insulin therapy is initiated, but the utility of SSTR2 antagonists in ameliorating hypoglycemia in this disease state is unknown. We examined the efficacy of a single-dose of SSTR2 antagonists in a rodent model of T2D.

Outcomes have been poor for this population, with no standard treatment.
Patients And Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 72 Ven-naïve patients who received hypomethylating agents + venetoclax at relapse following alloHCT and aimed to evaluate the rates of complete remission with or without hematologic recovery (CR/CRi) and minimal residual disease (MRD) negativity, CR/CRi duration, and overall survival.
Background: Pulmonary segments are valuable because they can provide more precise localization and intricate details of lung cancer than lung lobes. With advances in precision therapy, there is an increasing demand for the identification and visualization of pulmonary segments in computed tomography (CT) images to aid in the precise treatment of lung cancer. This study aimed to integrate multiple deep-learning models to accurately segment pulmonary segments in CT images using a bronchial tree (BT)-based approach.

Yet, the best way to interpret the figure and its optimal rate remain to be determined. This is because it is strongly influenced by the practice of other 2 modes of birth, namely cesarean delivery performed before reaching the second stage and assisted vaginal birth during the second stage.
