Issues: Established literature suggests that electronic cigarettes (EC) are more effective than traditional nicotine replacement therapies (NRT) as a smoking cessation aid, but the factors that mediate this difference remain poorly understood. We examine how adverse events (AE) associated with EC use relative to NRTs differ, with the view that differences in AEs experienced may drive differences in use and compliance.
Approach: Papers for inclusion were identified via a three-tiered search strategy.
Context: Intermittent self-dilatation (ISD) is a therapeutic strategy used to stabilise a urethral stricture and postpone or avoid further treatment. Adding corticosteroids to this mode of management might further enhance its outcomes by downregulation of collagen deposition and excessive scar tissue formation.
Objective: To explore whether a course of ISD with topical corticosteroids is superior at stabilising urethral stricture disease in men and improving functional outcomes over a course of ISD alone.
Scope: Okara is a fiber-rich food by-product whereby biovalorization with Rhizopus oligosporus can improve its nutritional quality, generating fermentable substrates for improved gut health maintenance. This study evaluates the impact of okara- and biovalorized okara-containing biscuits consumption on gut health in Singapore adults.
Methods And Results: Participants consume control (C), 20% flour-substituted okara (AOK), and 20% flour-substituted biovalorized okara (RO) biscuits for three weeks, with assessment of gut metabolites, microbiome, and dietary intake.
Excreted exclusively by the kidneys, fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC)-sinistrin can be used to measure glomerular filtration rate (GFR) and is detectable transdermally. Determination of changes in native kidney GFR (NK-GFR) in patients with acute kidney injury, particularly during continuous renal replacement therapy, improves clinical decision-making capability. To test feasibility of measuring changes in NK-GFR during CRRT with FITC-sinistrin, in vitro circuits (n = 2) were utilized to simultaneously clear FITC-sinistrin by removal of ultrafiltrate at varying rates, simulating kidney function, and by dialysis at a constant rate.

In their self-care practices, interviewees drew on their richly structured field of relations, exercised dexterity and discernment in attending to them, and forged new webs of relatedness. Moreover, some recounted moments of radical care when they disregarded bodily boundaries in co-isolating with and caring for infected friends or relatives.

Few prospective studies have evaluated whether personality measures predict alcohol problems after considering current demographic and substance-related variables.
Methods: Data from 414 drinkers without alcohol use disorder (AUD) from the Collaborative Study on the Genetics of Alcoholism (average age 20, 44% male) were followed over an average of 9 years.
Due to intense interest in the potential applications of quantum computing, it is critical to understand the basis for potential exponential quantum advantage in quantum chemistry. Here we gather the evidence for this case in the most common task in quantum chemistry, namely, ground-state energy estimation, for generic chemical problems where heuristic quantum state preparation might be assumed to be efficient. The availability of exponential quantum advantage then centers on whether features of the physical problem that enable efficient heuristic quantum state preparation also enable efficient solution by classical heuristics.

Objective: Given the limitations of pharmacological interventions, this systematic review synthesized the evidence for the effectiveness of complementary and alternative medicine in controlling nausea and vomiting among pediatric oncology patients.
Understanding the interpretation of machine learning (ML) models has been of paramount importance when making decisions with societal impacts, such as transport control, financial activities, and medical diagnosis. While local explanation techniques are popular methods to interpret ML models on a single instance, they do not scale to the understanding of a model's behavior on the whole dataset. In this article, we outline the challenges and needs of visually analyzing local explanations and propose SUBPLEX, a visual analytics approach to help users understand local explanations with subpopulation visual analysis.

Limited data exist on world-wide HTP use prevalence. This meta-analytic review estimated the prevalence of HTP use by country, World Health Organization (WHO) region, year, sex/gender and age.

We report herein a case of low-solute hyponatremia in a kidney transplant recipient with impaired graft function, highlighting key issues in diagnosis and management of low-solute hyponatremia, as well as exploring the pathophysiology of hyponatremia after kidney transplantation.
Case Presentation: A 51-year-old man who had received a cadaveric renal transplant 18 years before presented with symptomatic hyponatremia and seizure.
Aims: Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is characterised by a progressive loss of upper and lower motor neurons leading to muscle weakness and eventually death. Frontotemporal dementia (FTD) presents clinically with significant behavioural decline. Approximately 10% of cases have a known family history, and disease-linked mutations in multiple genes have been identified in FTD and ALS.

GSK3β activity in urinary exfoliated cells was reported to predict the progression of diabetic kidney disease (DKD). We compared the prognostic value of urinary and intrarenal GSK3β levels in DKD and nondiabetic chronic kidney disease (CKD).

However, few studies have documented whether the endorsement of AUD items changes over time in younger individuals or in women. We evaluated changes in the endorsement of AUD criteria in 377 men and women with persistent or recurrent AUD during their twenties.

We have previously demonstrated elevated serum level of soluble ST2 in patients with active systemic lupus erythematosus suggesting involvement of IL-33 and its receptor in the lupus pathogenesis. This study sought to examine the effect of exogenous IL-33 on disease activity of pre-disease lupus-prone mice and the underlying cellular mechanisms.

Background: Due to concerns over the public health impact of increasing opioid use, Australia up-scheduled codeine in 2018, requiring codeine-containing pharmaceuticals to be prescription-only. We examined pre-post changes in the prevalence and correlates of non-medical use of pharmaceutical opioids (NMUPO) and other illicit substance use (ISU).
Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional analysis of 45,463 participants aged 14 or above in the Australian National Drug Strategy Household Surveys (NDSHS) 2016 and 2019.
Introduction: Latina immigrants are at increased risk of depression and anxiety and limited access to mental health care. This study evaluated the effectiveness of Amigas Latinas Motivando el Alma (ALMA), a community-based intervention to reduce stress and promote mental health among Latina immigrants.
Methods: ALMA was evaluated using a delayed intervention comparison group study design.
Introduction: Medicinal cannabis is now legal in 44 US jurisdictions. Between 2020 and 2021 alone, four US jurisdictions legalised medicinal cannabis. The aim of this study is to identify themes in medicinal cannabis tweets from US jurisdictions with different legal statuses of cannabis from January to June 2021.
