Background: Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) are resistant to nearly all β-lactam antibiotics under standard testing conditions. However, a novel phenotype exists wherein certain MRSA strains exhibit β-lactam susceptibility in the presence of bicarbonate (termed 'NaHCO3-responsive'), an abundant ion in mammalian tissues and blood. This suggests that specific MRSA infections may be treatable by β-lactams.

Historically, the taxonomy of Enterobacter has been challenging, limiting our understanding of the clinical characteristics and outcomes of carbapenemase-producing Enterobacter spp.

Treatment options focused on preventing premature osteoarthritis vary depending on multiple patient and lesion characteristics, including lesion mobility.
Purpose: To differentiate lesion mobility before arthroscopy using a multivariable model that includes patient demographic characteristics and physical examination findings.
Background: A dorsal bunion may occur in nonambulatory adolescents with cerebral palsy (CP) and a Gross Motor Function Classification System (GMFCS) level of IV or V. The deformity can cause pain, skin breakdown, and difficulty wearing shoes and braces. A consensus on the biomechanics and surgical management of dorsal bunions in persons with severe CP has not been established.

We characterized the molecular determinants of meropenem-vaborbactam (MV) non-susceptibility among non-metallo-β-lactamase-producing KPC- (KPC-). Whole-genome sequencing was performed to identify mutations associated with MV non-susceptibility. Isolates with elevated MV MICs were found to have mutations encoding truncated or altered OmpK36 porins and increased copy numbers.

The formation of a patient-reported outcomes registry to provide information about functional changes and pain among adults with cerebral palsy (CP) was identified as a priority to address the gap in knowledge and practice about aging and CP. The Cerebral Palsy Research Network collaborated with consumers, clinicians, and researchers to create an interactive internet platform, MyCP, to host a Community Registry. MyCP also provides educational programming, access to webinars and community forums, and fitness opportunities.

Methods: YouTube videos were analyzed based on interaction parameters, content characteristics/category, and video source. Video reliability and quality were assessed using the Journal of American Medical Association benchmark, Global Quality Scale, and cerebral palsy-specific score.
Recent studies suggest that suboptimal cardiac imaging on routine obstetric anatomy ultrasound (OB-scan) is not associated with a higher risk for congenital heart disease (CHD) and, therefore, should not be an indication for fetal echocardiography (F-echo). We aim to determine the incidence of CHD in patients referred for suboptimal imaging in a large catchment area, including regions that are geographically distant from a tertiary care center. We conducted a retrospective chart review of patients referred to Seattle Children's Hospital (SCH) and SCH Regional Cardiology sites (SCH-RC) from 2011 to 2021 for F-echo with the indication of suboptimal cardiac imaging by OB-scan.

Resistance to NGBs, which is alternatively known as broad-spectrum β-lactam resistance, is classically mediated by PBP2a, a penicillin-binding protein encoded by (or ) in MRSA.

Here we derived and evaluated a disease-specific DOOR endpoint for registrational trials for hospital-acquired bacterial pneumonia and ventilator-associated bacterial pneumonia (HABP/VABP).
Methods: Through comprehensive examination of data from nearly 4000 participants enrolled in six registrational trials for HABP/VABP submitted to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) between 2005 and 2022, we derived and applied a HABP/VABP specific endpoint.
Background: Adults with cerebral palsy (CP) have unique healthcare needs and risks, including high risk of functional decline. Understanding functional decline is an area of priority for CP research.
Objective: Describe factors associated with patient-reported changes in function among adults with CP living in the community.
Methicillin-resistant (MRSA) strains are a major challenge for clinicians due, in part, to their resistance to most β-lactams, the first-line treatment for methicillin-susceptible . A phenotype termed "NaHCO-responsiveness" has been identified, wherein many clinical MRSA isolates are rendered susceptible to standard-of-care β-lactams in the presence of physiologically relevant concentrations of NaHCO, and ; moreover, such "NaHCO-responsive" isolates can be effectively cleared by β-lactams from target tissues in experimental infective endocarditis (IE). One mechanistic impact of NaHCO exposure on NaHCO-responsive MRSA is to repress WTA synthesis.

The goal of this study was to characterize the demographics and proportional subgroup reporting and representation of participants enrolled in randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of antibacterials used to treat Staphylococcus aureus infections.
Methods: We examined randomized controlled registrational and strategy trials published from 2000 to 2021 to determine the sex, race, and ethnicity of participants.
Background: Studies have shown good reliability for gait analysis interpretation among surgeons from the same institution. However, reliability among surgeons from different institutions remains to be determined.
Research Question: Is gait analysis interpretation by surgeons from different institutions as reliable as it is for surgeons from the same institution?
Methods: Gait analysis data for 67 patients with cerebral palsy (CP) were reviewed prospectively by two orthopedic surgeons from different institutions in the same state, each with > 10 years' experience interpreting gait analysis data.
Background: Chronic pain is common among adults with cerebral palsy (CP) and an area of priority for research and treatment.
Objective: Describe the pain experience and its functional and quality of life impact among adults with CP with chronic pain in the community.
Methods: Cross-sectional analysis of adult patient-reported outcomes collected by the Cerebral Palsy Research Network Community Registry.
