Characterizing Oxide Inclusions in Welded Lean Duplex Stainless Steels and Their Influence on Impact Toughness.

In newly developed 2101 lean duplex stainless steel, oxide inclusions have been detected on welded metal zones after subjecting them to flux-cored arc welding with an E2209T1-1 flux-cored filler metal. These oxide inclusions directly affect mechanical properties of the welded metal. Hence, a correlation requiring validation has been proposed between oxide inclusions and mechanical impact toughness.

Effect of surface pretreatments on resin composite bonding to PEEK.

This study evaluated the effect of surface pretreatments on resin composite bonding to polyetheretherketone (PEEK). Four groups of surface pretreatment (no pretreatment, etched with 98% sulfuric acid, etched with piranha solution and sandblasting with 50 µm alumina) were performed on PEEK. Surface roughness, Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) analysis were examined.

Challenges and strategies of surface modification of electrogalvanized coatings for electron microscopy analysis.

Despite wide usage of electrogalvanized coatings in various applications, characterization studies on their micro/crystal structure, and the understanding of how they correspondingly affect the properties, such as corrosion, are rather limited. This is mainly attributed to some difficulties in preparing and examining the zinc coating layers, owing to their intrinsically low corrosion resistance and refined nano-scaled crystallite size. This study aims to examine such challenges systematically and propose some mitigation strategies.
