Isolation and characterization of microsatellite markers for the threatened African endemic tree species Poir.

To study the genetic diversity and structure of the forest species Poir., seventeen polymorphic nuclear microsatellite markers were isolated and characterized, using next-generation sequencing. Three hundred and sixty-five (365) individuals were analyzed within fifteen (15) West African populations.

Dataset of visible-near infrared handheld and micro-spectrometers - comparison of the prediction accuracy of sugarcane properties.

In the dataset presented in this article, sixty sugarcane samples were analyzed by eight visible / near infrared spectrometers including seven micro-spectrometers. There is one file per spectrometer with sample name, wavelength, absorbance data [calculated as log (1/Reflectance)], and another file for reference data, in order to assess the potential of the micro-spectrometers to predict chemical properties of sugarcane samples and to compare their performance with a LabSpec spectrometer. The Partial Least Square Regression (PLS-R) algorithm was used to build calibration models.

Using spatial information for evaluating the quality of prediction maps from hyperspectral images: A geostatistical approach.

Applying a calibration model onto hyperspectral (HS) images is of great interest because it produces images of chemical or physical properties. HS imaging is widely used in this way in food processing industries for monitoring product quality and process control. In this context, one of the main difficulties in the application of regression models to HS images is to evaluate the error of the obtained predictions, since in a proximal imaging set up, the size of the pixels is usually much smaller than the area required to obtain a wet chemical reference.

A systems biology view of wood formation in Eucalyptus grandis trees submitted to different potassium and water regimes.

Wood production in fast-growing Eucalyptus grandis trees is highly dependent on both potassium (K) fertilization and water availability but the molecular processes underlying wood formation in response to the combined effects of these two limiting factors remain unknown. E. grandis trees were submitted to four combinations of K-fertilization and water supply.

This study investigated the effects of an experimental high-protein medium-carbohydrate diet (protein level, 46% metabolizable energy, ME). First, postprandial plasma glucose and insulin kinetics were determined in steady-state overweight/obese Beagle dogs (28%-41% excess body weight) for an experimental high-protein medium-carbohydrate diet (protein level, 46% ME) and a commercial high-carbohydrate medium-protein diet (protein level, 24%ME) in obese dogs. Secondly, all the dogs were included in a weight loss programme.

Comparative palatability of two veterinary dewormers (Milpro(®) and Milbemax(®)): a blinded randomised crossover cat study.

Background: The combination of milbemycin oxime-praziquantel is widely used against the most common tapeworms and roundworms affecting cats. New veterinary presentations of this combination have recently been approved.

The use of transthoracic echocardiography in dolphins has been limited so far owing to technical and anatomical specificities. Anatomic M-mode (AMM) is a postprocessing echocardiographic technique generating M-mode studies from two-dimensional (2D) cineloops independently of the ultrasound beam orientation. The aim of the present study was to determine the within-day (repeatability) and between-day (reproducibility) variability of AMM echocardiography in awake healthy bottlenose dolphins (BN, Tursiops truncatus).

Gene flow estimation with microsatellites in a Malagasy seed orchard of Eucalyptus grandis.

Eucalyptus grandis has a mixed-mating reproductive system. Malagasy Eucalyptus seed orchards were established 15 years ago with two aims both based on panmixia: open-pollinated seed production and genetic improvement. The panmixia hypothesis has never been confirmed in the seed orchard.

Calcium content of mice brain lipids during myelination.

Calcium levels have been determined in brain of C57Bl mice and in the Quaking dysmyelinating mutant during the myelination period. In control mice, calcium content per gram brain is maximum at 20 days, at the acme of myelination, and decreases thereafter to reach a plateau at 30 days. This variation does not occur in the mutant where the level is 50% lower than maximum in controls and stable at 15 days after birth.

In brain microsomes, palmitate and stearate elongation involve a membrane lipid-bound substrate. After elongation by malonyl-CoA, acyl-products are partially bound to proteins. Acyl-proteins are not found when endogenous fatty acid elongation takes place.
