Introduction: Triple antibody positive antiphospholipid syndrome during pregnancy carries a poor prognosis. The placental vasculature is particularly vulnerable to these antibodies resulting in a marked increased risk of fetal growth restriction, placental infarction, abruption, stillbirth, and preterm severe preeclampsia.
Case Presentation: We report a case of a primigravida with triple antibody positive antiphospholipid syndrome that demonstrated placental insufficiency and fetal compromise at a previable gestation.
Background: Solid organ transplantation is the therapy of choice for many patients with end-stage organ failure; however, recipients must remain on lifelong immunosuppression, leaving them susceptible to infections and cancer. The study of transplant tolerance to prolong graft survival in the absence of immunosuppression has been restricted to recipients of living donor allografts; however, deceased donors significantly outnumber living donors. Mobilization of hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) from the bone marrow to peripheral blood (PB) could allow PB-HSCs to be used to induce tolerance in deceased donor kidney recipients; however, a major concern is the well-known concomitant mobilization of immune cells into the liver.

Study Design: A retrospective study was conducted on 958 women referred to the Maternal Hypertension Center at Cabell Huntington Hospital between 2005 and 2014 for the indication of chronic hypertension.
Main Outcome Measures: Serial assessments of maternal hemodynamics were obtained using non-invasive impedance cardiography.
Introduction: The purpose of our study was to evaluate the factors that influence the timing of definitive fixation in the management of bilateral femoral shaft fractures and the outcomes for patients with these injuries.
Methods: Patients with bilateral femur fractures treated between 1998 to 2019 at ten level-1 trauma centers were retrospectively reviewed. Patients were grouped into early or delayed fixation, which was defined as definitive fixation of both femurs within or greater than 24 hours from injury, respectively.
The microbiome of the female reproductive tract has implications for women's reproductive health. We examined the vaginal microbiome in two cohorts of women who experienced normal term births: a cross-sectionally sampled cohort of 613 pregnant and 1,969 non-pregnant women, focusing on 300 pregnant and 300 non-pregnant women of African, Hispanic or European ancestry case-matched for race, gestational age and household income; and a longitudinally sampled cohort of 90 pregnant women of African or non-African ancestry. In these women, the vaginal microbiome shifted during pregnancy toward Lactobacillus-dominated profiles at the expense of taxa often associated with vaginal dysbiosis.

There are significant disparities in the frequency of preterm birth among populations within countries, and women of African ancestry disproportionately bear the burden of risk in the United States. In the present study, we report a community resource that includes 'omics' data from approximately 12,000 samples as part of the integrative Human Microbiome Project.

Studies of non-exposed neonates suggest that maternal depression and anxiety are predictive of negative short and long-term neonatal outcomes, but research is lacking in the addicted population. We studied of 109 pregnant women in medication-assisted treatment (MAT) and their neonates to determine if psychiatric conditions co-occurring with Substance Use Disorder (SUD) contributed to the severity of neonatal withdrawal.

Nine individuals with minimum one-year of LBP, eleven with thoracic/lumbar SCI and nine healthy controls participated in this study. The activations of anterior deltoid, upper trapezius, infraspinatus and pectoralis major were recorded by surface EMG during one-handed transferring of a cylinder from a home shelve to six spatially distributed target shelves.

Graves' disease is the most common cause of autoimmune hyperthyroidism during pregnancy. Treatment options for Graves' disease include thioamide therapy, partial or total thyroidectomy, and radioactive iodine.

However, such obstructions can also provide an opportunity for additional support by bracing with the hand, thigh or other body part. The reaction forces on bracing surfaces, which are in addition to those acting at the feet and task hand, are hypothesised to improve force exertion capability, and become required inputs to biomechanical analysis of tasks with bracing.

Previous work has quantified considerable vertical force components during push/pull exertions. The objective of this work was to quantify and statistically model actual hand forces in two-hand, standing exertions relative to the required nominal horizontal and vertical hand forces for a population of widely varying stature and strength.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAccurate prediction of foot placements in relation to hand locations during manual materials handling tasks is critical for prospective biomechanical analysis. To address this need, the effects of lifting task conditions and anthropometric variables on foot placements were studied in a laboratory experiment. In total, 20 men and women performed two-handed object transfers that required them to walk to a shelf, lift an object from the shelf at waist height and carry the object to a variety of locations.

In the present paper we describe serotype-specific patterns of GBS Sia O-acetylation that can be manipulated by genetic and biochemical means. In vitro and in vivo assays demonstrate that this subtle modification attenuates GBS Sia-mediated neutrophil suppression and animal virulence.

Various studies have suggested a prevalence of 10 -20%. This study used anonymous sampling of umbilical cord tissue to estimate the prevalence of substance abuse in West Virginia.

Background: Adequate space is needed during assembly tasks in which workers join parts together with their hands. Hose installations are an example of such a task.
We assessed the effect of antihypertensive therapy guided by impedance cardiography on maternal and fetal outcomes in pregnancies at risk for hypertensive complications. We performed a retrospective review of the outcomes of 318 singleton pregnancies with chronic hypertension or prior preterm delivery due to preeclampsia whose antihypertensive therapy was guided by impedance cardiography. Hemodynamic subsets were compared using analysis of variance.

It also is argued that even with adequate biomechanical and epidemiological information, the ability to change working conditions and manual task requirements in companies required management and workers to become organised into formal ergonomics teams that could be trained and empowered to reduce the known biomechanical risk factors present in various jobs. It is demonstrated that in the last 35 years occupational biomechanics research continues to provide the intellectual machine that is driving the development of important ergonomics guidelines.

Twelve healthy subjects performed maximum wrist flexion/extension exertions with one of five levels of simultaneous grip effort: minimum effort; preferred effort; 30%, 60% and 100% maximum voluntary contraction. As grip force increased from the minimum to the maximum effort, average wrist flexion strength increased 34% and average wrist extension strength decreased 10%.
