Ultrasound neuromodulation is a promising stimulation modality because of its non-invasiveness, focusing and steering capability, and relatively high spatial resolution compared to the other stimulation modalities. However, despite the high lateral resolution, the ultrasound beam in the axial direction is relatively long, especially when compared to the small size of the mouse brain. Here, we report a new ultrasound focusing technique for small animal in vivo experiments where a high spatial resolution in both lateral and axial directions is achieved by crossing two ultrasound beams.
