Objective: We hypothesised that UTB would be associated with a lower incidence of HDP than ISB while providing sufficient analgesia following arthroscopic shoulder surgery.
Background: Perfusion index (PI) has been used as a surrogate marker of sympathetic blockade. This study evaluated changes in PI of bilateral upper extremity after thoracic paravertebral block (PVB) and intertransverse process block (ITPB).
Methods: This pilot study included three groups of patients undergoing elective unilateral pulmonary resection under general anesthesia with PVB (n=11) or ITPB (n=10), or urologic procedures with general anesthesia (control group, n=10).

The accuracy and feasibility of using an arbitrary CVP rather than actual CVP for the estimation of SVR during intraoperative period is not known.
Methods: Using vital records obtained from patients who underwent neurological and cardiac surgery, the present study retrospectively calculated SVR using fixed values of CVP (0, 5, 10, 15, and 20 mmHg) and randomly changing values of CVP (5 to 15 mmHg) and compared these calculated SVRs with actual SVR, calculated using actual CVP.

The aim of this study was to assess the effect of dexmedetomidine as an adjuvant for the thoracic paravertebral block (TPVB) in postoperative pain control after video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS).
Methods: Sixty-six males, aged 15⁻40 years, with spontaneous pneumothorax scheduled for VATS wedge resection were enrolled.
Purpose: Dexmedetomidine, an alpha 2 receptor agonist, prolongs nerve block duration when administered in conjunction with peripheral nerve blocks. We hypothesised that sedation with dexmedetomidine could also significantly prolong the analgesic duration of brachial plexus block (BPB) during orthopaedic surgery on the upper extremities.
Materials And Methods: One hundred and two patients received upper extremity surgery under BPB.
