Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is a prevalent malignancy with a steadily increasing incidence. Associated risk factors range from tobacco use to the presence of human papillomavirus (HPV) infection. Despite advances in therapeutic options, there have been minimal improvements in the survival rate and percentage of morbidity and mortality.

Background: Since the advent of laparoscopic surgery, many studies have shown the advantages of laparoscopic surgery over open surgery for ventral hernia repair (VHR). As robotic surgery is gaining popularity, we sought to compare the outcomes of this newer robotic-assisted technique to the outcomes of established open and laparoscopic techniques to assess for any additional benefit.

Methods: A meta-analysis research design was employed.

Introduction. Single-incision laparoscopic colectomy (SILC) is a viable and safe technique; however, there are no single-institution studies comparing outcomes of SILC for colon cancer with well-established minimally invasive techniques. We evaluated the short-term outcomes following SILC for cancer compared to a group of well-established minimally invasive techniques.

Background: The relationship between hospital volume and perioperative mortality in pancreaticoduodenectomy has been well established. We studied whether associations exist between hospital volume and hospital clinical resources and between both of these factors to mortality to help explain this relationship.

Study Design: This two-part study reviewed publicly available hospital information from the Leapfrog Group, HealthGrades, and hospital Web sites.

In cyclic voltammetry studies at pH 8, imidazole facilitates oxidation of organic compounds that normally lose hydrogen atoms. High concentrations of imidazole shift the oxidizing wave of ascorbic acid, 2,3-dimethoxy-5-methyl-1,4-hydroquinone, and the vitamin E analogue Trolox toward lower potentials. By contrast, imidazole has no effect on the cyclic voltammogram of methyl viologen, which undergoes electron rather than hydrogen-atom transfer.
