On the basis of revisions of some of the systematic errors, we reanalyzed the electron-antineutrino angular correlation (a coefficient) in free neutron decay inferred from the recoil energy spectrum of the protons which are detected in 4π by the aSPECT spectrometer. With a=-0.104 02(82) the new value differs only marginally from the one published in 2020.

UV/Vis absorption data of ()-4-(2-[5-{4,4,5,5-tetramethyl-1,3,2-dioxaborolane-2-yl}thiene-2-yl]vinyl)-2-(dicyano-methylene)-3-cyano-5,5-dimethyl-2,5-dihydrofuran (ThTCF) as a solvatochromic probe is applied to examine the anion coordination strength ( of N(CN), BF, PF, N(Tf), CFCOO) as a function of the cation structure of ionic liquids. Several 1--alky-3-methylimidazolium- and tetraalkylammonium CH-NR-based ILs with different -alkyl chain lengths (R = -CH, -CH, -CH, -CH) are considered. UV/Vis absorption data of ThTCF show subtle correlations with hydrogen bond accepting (HBA) ability-related measurands such as Kamlet-Taft , Freire's , and Laurence parameter as a function of anion and cation structure.

A measurement of the double-polarization observable for the reaction is reported. The data were taken with the CBELSA/TAPS experiment at the ELSA facility in Bonn using the Bonn frozen-spin butanol (C H OH) target, which provided longitudinally-polarized protons. Circularly-polarized photons were produced via bremsstrahlung of longitudinally-polarized electrons.

The Kamlet-Taft dipolarity/polarizability parameters π* for various ionic liquids were determined using 4-tert-butyl-2-((dicyanomethylene)-5-[4-N,N-diethylamino)-benzylidene]-Δ3-thiazoline and 5-(N,N-dimethylamino)-5'-nitro-2,2'-bithiophene as solvatochromic probes. In contrast to the established π*-probe N,N-diethylnitroaniline, the chromophores presented here show excellent agreement with polarity measurement using the chemical shift of 129Xe. They do not suffer from additional bathochromic UV/vis shifts caused by hydrogen-bonding resulting in too high π*-values for some ionic liquids.

The Nπ^{0}π^{0} decays of positive-parity N^{*} and Δ^{*} resonances at about 2 GeV are studied at ELSA by photoproduction of two neutral pions off protons. The data reveal clear evidence for several intermediate resonances: Δ(1232), N(1520)3/2^{-}, and N(1680)5/2^{+}, with spin parities J^{P}=3/2^{+}, 3/2^{-}, and 5/2^{+}. The partial wave analysis (within the Bonn-Gatchina approach) identifies N(1440)1/2^{+} and the N(ππ)_{S wave} (abbreviated as Nσ here) as further isobars and assigns the final states to the formation of nucleon and Δ resonances and to nonresonant contributions.

New data on the polarization observables T, P, and H for the reaction γp→pπ(0) are reported. The results are extracted from azimuthal asymmetries when a transversely polarized butanol target and a linearly polarized photon beam are used. The data were taken at the Bonn electron stretcher accelerator ELSA using the CBELSA/TAPS detector.

The first measurement of the helicity dependence of the photoproduction cross section of single neutral pions off protons is reported for photon energies from 600 to 2300 MeV, covering nearly the full solid angle. The data are compared to predictions from the SAID, MAID, and BnGa partial wave analyses. Strikingly large differences between data and predictions are observed, which are traced to differences in the helicity amplitudes of well-known and established resonances.

The first measurement is reported of the double-polarization observable G in the photoproduction of neutral pions off protons, covering the photon energy range from 620 to 1120 MeV and the full solid angle. G describes the correlation between the photon polarization plane and the scattering plane for protons polarized along the direction of the incoming photon. The observable is highly sensitive to contributions from baryon resonances.

Studies on mixed chimerism are currently focused primarily on obtaining less toxic conditioning protocols. With these issues in mind, we have undertaken the attempt to optimize the procedure of mixed chimerism induction in mice. In order to reduce toxicity, we used decreasing doses of total body irradiation (TBI) together with combination of blocking antibodies.

Background: Early embryo development (EED) forms the basis of assisted reproductive technologies (ARTs), which are used to treat human infertility and to propagate other mammalian species. Thyroid hormones (THs) play an important role in the post-implantation development of the embryo in mammals; however, the effects of THs on pre-attachment embryos are not known. Currently utilized in-vitro embryo production media are devoid of THs and hence our main objective was to examine whether THs affected EED in a bovine model.

Information on hadron properties in the nuclear medium has been derived from the photoproduction of omega mesons on the nuclei C, Ca, Nb, and Pb using the Crystal Barrel/TAPS detector at the ELSA tagged photon facility in Bonn. The dependence of the omega-meson cross section on the nuclear mass number has been compared with three different types of models: a Glauber analysis, a Boltzmann-Uehling-Uhlenbeck analysis of the Giessen theory group, and a calculation by the Valencia theory group. In all three cases, the inelastic omega width is found to be 130-150 MeV/c(2) at normal nuclear matter density for an average 3-momentum of 1.

In 2003 the junior soccer premier league (U19) has been introduced in Germany to increase the competitive level in this group of age (16 - 18 years). It is the aim of this study to compare the injury pattern accompanying this new league of semi-professional junior soccer with a professional senior team. In a retrospective study all traumatic and overuse injuries, responsible for absence from practice or matches, which occurred in two seasons of one junior premier league team were recorded and analyzed.

Malignant neuroendocrine tumours are less sensitive to chemotherapy than other epithelial malignancies. If chemotherapy is considered, tumours of pancreatic origin have a higher sensitivity than tumours from the gastrointestinal tract ('carcinoids'). Chemotherapy with streptozocin combinations and with dacarbazine should be considered in patients with progressive malignant neuroendocrine tumours of the pancreas.

Objective: Ventricular assist devices are increasingly used to treat patients with acute or chronic end-stage heart failure. We report on circumstances, exemplified on four cases, where a surprisingly favorable clinical course of the patients ultimately demanded early explantation of the device, which was not anticipated prior to its implantation.

Methods: The four patients were provided with implantable (Micromed BeBakey trade mark, Incor trade mark ) and external pneumatically driven (Thoratec trade mark, Excor trade mark ) devices under emergency conditions and were listed for heart transplantation.

For the example of the B2 CoAl(100) surface, we demonstrate that even slight deviations from an ordered alloy's ideal stoichiometry in a subsurface region or in the bulk can drastically affect its surface composition. By experimental surface analysis and first-principles calculations, we show that Co antisite atoms segregate to the very surface, driven by the same strong interactions which enforce order in the bulk. Our findings are consistent with the lack of antisite segregation we found earlier for the much weaker ordering FeAl(100), and resolve contradictory reports for NiAl(100).
