Effect of simultaneous application of adenosine A1 receptor agonist and A2A receptor antagonist on memory, inflammatory factors, and PSD-95 in lipopolysaccharide-induced memory impairment.

The potential role of adenosine, a natural neuroprotective agent, and its receptors in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease has been proposed. The present study aims to examine the effect of administering both an A1 receptor agonist and an A2A adenosine receptor antagonist simultaneously on memory, inflammatory factors, and PSD-95 in an LPS-induced Alzheimer's disease model in rats. Fifty-six male Wistar rats were randomly divided into seven groups: Saline, LPS, Saline + Vehicle, LPS + Vehicle, LPS + SCH58261 (A2A receptor antagonist), LPS + CPA (A1 receptor agonist), LPS + SCH58261+CPA.

Prevalence of visual dysfunction and ocular motility disorders in developmentally delayed patients.

Objective: To evaluate the prevalence of reduced visual acuity (VA), refractive errors (RE), reduced contrast sensitivity and strabismus in developmentally delayed (DD) patients.

Methods: This descriptive cross sectional study was carried out in Ophthalmology Departments of Mayo Hospital, Lahore, The Children's Hospital, Lahore and The Children's Hospital, Multan from June 2019 to December 2019. We recruited 257 patients of either gender, between the ages of 06-16 years having intelligence quotient (IQ) ≤ 80 by Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (WISC) from the out-patient departments.

An Uncommon Presentation of Paraneoplastic Leukemoid Reaction (PLR) in a Rare Case of Adenosquamous Carcinoma (ASC) of the Gallbladder (GB): A Case Report.

This case report describes an unusual paraneoplastic leukemoid response presenting in a rare instance of gallbladder (GB) adenosquamous carcinoma (ASC). Adenocarcinoma is the most prevalent histological subtype of GB carcinoma, which is most frequently diagnosed in people in their sixth and seventh decades of life. Adenosquamous and squamous variations are uncommon.

Niosomes-loaded selenium nanoparticles as a new approach for enhanced antibacterial, anti-biofilm, and anticancer activities.

Targeted drug delivery and increasing the biological activity of drugs is one of the recent challenges of pharmaceutical researchers. Niosomes are one of the new targeted drug delivery systems that enhances the biological properties of drugs. In this study, for the first time, the green synthesis of selenium nanoparticles (SeNPs), and its loading into niosome was carried out to increase the anti-bacterial and anti-cancer activity of SeNPs.

The impact of the gut microbiome on toxigenic bacteria.

Millions of symbiotic and pathogenic microorganisms known as microbiota colonize the host body. The microbiome plays an important role in human health and colonizes hundreds of different species of multicellular organisms so that they are introduced as the metaorganisms. Changes in the microbial population of the gut microbiome may cause resistance to pathogenic bacteria-induced infection.

Socialization During the COVID-19 Pandemic: The Role of Social and Scientific Networks During Social Distancing.

In the COVID-19 era, while we are encouraged to be physically far away from each other, social and scientific networking is needed more than ever. The dire consequences of social distancing can be diminished by social networking. Social media, a quintessential component of social networking, facilitates the dissemination of reliable information and fighting against misinformation by health authorities.

Evaluation of phytochemical and in vitro antioxidant activity of water and acetone extracts of selected vegetables.

The aim of this study was to determine antioxidant activity of Brassica oleracea (Cabbage), Brassica rapa (Turnip) and Raphanus sativus (Radish). All of the three selected vegetables were ultrasonically extracted in water and acetone. The antioxidant activity was determined by DPPH and H2O2.

Municipal solid waste management in Lahore City District, Pakistan.

This study deals with generation, composition, collection, transportation, and disposal, as well as the present cost of the waste management on the basis of 60% collection of the total waste and the cost of proposed improved system of management on the basis of 100% waste collection using the IWM-2 LCI model. A GIS map of Data Ganj Bakhsh Town (DGBT) of Lahore City District showing communal storage facilities is also provided. DGBT has a population of 1,624,169 living in 232,024 dwellings.

Gas chromatographic/mass spectrometric analysis of the essential oil of Houttuynia cordata Thunb by using on-column methylation with tetramethylammonium acetate.

This paper describes a simple and novel on-column derivatization procedure used with gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS) for the analysis of essential oil of Houttuynia cordata Thunb (HCT), a traditional Chinese medicine. In the procedure, the essential oil was obtained by hydrodistillation, and the fatty acid components were derivatized with tetramethylammonium acetate (TMAA) at 250 degrees C and identified by GC/MS. Methylation improved the determination of both the fatty acids and the other components in the essential oil of HCT.

Small bowel volvulus leading to gangrene and short bowel syndrome.

A young man was operated for acute abdomen. Laparotomy revealed small bowel diverticulosis with very short mesentery leading to volvulus of near total small bowel. Resection and end to end anastomosis was performed.

Failure of chronic pallidal stimulation in dystonic patients is a medical emergency.

Deep brain stimulation (DBS) therapy is a continually expanding field of functional neurosurgery for the treatment of movement disorders and neuropathic pain. However, occurrence of adverse events related to implanted hardware cannot be ignored, particularly in patients with dystonic conditions. We report on two such patients who required emergency hospital admission and pulse generator re-implantation following sudden and unexpected cessation of DBS effectiveness resulting from battery failure.
