Biological and technical complications in root cap-retained overdentures after 3-15 years in situ: a retrospective clinical study.

Objectives: This retrospective clinical study investigates the frequency of biological and technical complications in patients rehabilitated by natural root-retained overdentures (RODs) with cast post-and-cores (root caps) wearing precision attachments and analyses factors influencing complication rates (e.g. oral hygiene routines).

Root-retained overdentures: Survival of abutment teeth with precision attachments on root caps depends on overdenture design.

Background: Root-retained overdentures (OD) are one treatment option for partially edentulous patients. However, the available evidence regarding factors influencing abutment survival in root-retained ODs is limited.

Purpose: This retrospective study included clinical examinations and evaluated the survival rate of roots restored with precision attachments soldered to post-and-core (gold cap) retained ODs, analysed with respect to various patient- and prosthesis-related factors.

[Sexual delinquency and Parkinson's disease].

The risk of aberrant sexual behaviour such as hypersexuality, exhibitionism, or pederasty may be underestimated in Parkinson's disease and its therapy with high-dosage L-dopa or dopamine agonists. We describe two legal cases which are representative of the forensic assessment of these side effects. The first case brought to court was a 45-year-old man suffering for 20 years from Parkinson's disease who developed hypersexuality and exhibitionism under high-dose therapy with ropinirol.

In order to test what could be justification for external cephalic version (ECV) in breech presentations, the authors carried out a prospective study in the four university maternity units throughout the year 1989. This brought together 262 breech presentations of more than 30 weeks duration. They compared the results in two units where ECV is carried out frequently with two where it is carried out rarely.

[Defect prosthesis following total upper jaw resection].

Using the method described, a defect prosthesis can be fastened with the help of operatively prepared retention sites and transnasal anchorage after total upper jaw resection. The technical process of manufacture is outlined and the result demonstrated in photographs.
