Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is a retinal disease prevalent in the elderly population, with two main subtypes: dry (non-exudative) and neovascular (wet or exudative). Neovascular AMD (nAMD) has a more debilitating prognosis than dry AMD, making it the third leading cause of blindness. Intravitreal injections of anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (IV anti-VEGF) are the most effective and widely accepted treatment for nAMD.

This study is correlational and cross-sectional quantitative research that examines the moderating role of working time with the school principal on the effect of leader-member exchange on teachers' job performance through organisational citizenship. Data were collected from 481 teachers in 43 public schools across the western, central, northern, southern, and eastern regions of Türkiye using the convenience sampling method. The Leader-Member Exchange Scale, Organisational Citizenship Scale, and Employee Performance Scale were used as data collection tools.

The psychological resilience of teachers has gained significant attention due to its positive effects on schools and students. This cross-sectional quantitative study investigates the moderating roles of gender and the length of time spent with the school principal in the relationship between principals' empowering leadership behaviors and teachers' psychological resilience. Data were collected from 362 teachers working in public primary, secondary, and high schools in Siirt, Türkiye.

Background: The COVID-19 vaccine has been effective in reducing infection rates and disease severity; however, vaccination coverage has been lower than expected because of vaccine hesitancy, even among healthcare workers.

Aim: To investigate the attitude of healthcare professionals in Türkiye to the COVID-19 vaccine.

Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted between December 2020 and February 2021 among physicians, nurses, midwives, emergency medical technicians, dieticians, and physiotherapists in Türkiye, using the snowball sampling method for data collection.

Objective: We aimed to assess the frequency of Y-chromosome microdeletions (YCMs) in a non-multiethnic urban population in our region, define predictive factors, and determine a new clinical threshold for YCMs in infertile men.

Materials And Methods: A total of 281 patients with a sperm concentration ≤5 million/mL were retrospectively evaluated. Oligozoospermic and/or azoospermic patients with a sperm concentration of ≤5 million/mL were screened for the YCM analysis.

Article Synopsis
  • The study focuses on the cryopreservation of testicular tissue and sperm in bulls, examining how these processes impact sperm quality and cell viability, as well as the expression of the PARP-1 gene.
  • Testes were collected from 20 bulls, and sperm was frozen using liquid nitrogen, with testicular tissue treated with cryoprotectants like DMSO and EG before freezing.
  • Results showed that post-thaw sperm motility and viability significantly decreased, with DMSO improving cell viability more than EG, and both cryoprotectants influenced gene expression related to DNA repair.

OBJECTIVESThe coexistence of TB and diabetes mellitus (DM) (TB-DM) is associated with an increased risk of treatment failure, death, delayed culture conversion, and drug resistance. Because plasma concentrations may influence clinical outcomes, we evaluated the evidence on the pharmacokinetic (PK) of TB drugs in individuals with DM to guide management.METHODSWe performed a systematic review and meta-analysis through searches of major databases from 1946 to 6 July 2023.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigated serum levels of NF-κB p105, NF-κB p65, and IκBα in 35 mild/moderate COVID-19 patients compared to 35 healthy individuals.
  • Results showed significantly higher NF-κB p105 levels in COVID-19 patients, alongside increased C-reactive protein and D-dimer levels, while lymphocyte counts were lower.
  • Elevated NF-κB p105 levels were found to correlate with the necessity for supplemental oxygen during hospitalization, suggesting it could serve as a diagnostic and prognostic marker for COVID-19 severity.

This study aimed to investigate the protective effects of nanoparticle selenium (SeNP) and sodium selenite (SS) on preventing oxidative stress during the freezing process of dog semen. A total of six dogs were used in the study. The ejaculate was collected from dogs three times at different times by massage method.

Background: The current tuberculosis (TB) drug development pipeline is being re-populated with candidates, including nitroimidazoles such as pretomanid, that exhibit a potential to shorten TB therapy by exerting a bactericidal effect on non-replicating bacilli. Based on results from preclinical and early clinical studies, a four-drug combination of bedaquiline, pretomanid, moxifloxacin, and pyrazinamide (BPaMZ) regimen was identified with treatment-shortening potential for both drug-susceptible (DS) and drug-resistant (DR) TB. This trial aimed to determine the safety and efficacy of BPaMZ.

Our objectives were to investigate the effects of exogenous melatonin on testicular volume (TV), testicular blood flow (TBF), and semen quality in Bafra rams during the non-breeding season. One group of rams (MEL, = 5) received a 36 mg melatonin implant twice, with 30 days in between, while the other group (CON, = 5) served as the control. TBF, TV, and semen quality parameters were determined at three-week intervals starting three weeks before until twelve weeks after the first melatonin implant.

The clinical implications of COVID-19 have changed since SARS-CoV-2 first emerged in humans. The current high levels of population immunity, due to prior infection and/or vaccination, have been associated with a vastly decreased overall risk of severe disease. Some people, particularly those with immunocompromising conditions, remain at risk for severe outcomes.

Cardiovascular diseases are mostly associated with narrowing or blockage of blood vessels, and it is the most common cause of death worldwide. The use of vascular grafts is a promising approach to bypass or replace the blocked vessels for long-term treatment. Although autologous arteries or veins are the most preferred tissue sources for vascular bypass, the limited presence and poor quality of autologous vessels necessitate seeking alternative biomaterials.

Article Synopsis
  • - A cluster of clade I monkeypox virus infections was identified in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, associated with sexual contact.
  • - Investigations confirmed 5 cases using reverse transcription PCR, and genome sequencing showed they were part of the same transmission chain.
  • - This discovery indicates that monkeypox (mpox) can be transmitted sexually in clade I, not just in the previously noted clade IIb.

Abbreviations are unavoidable yet critical parts of the medical text. Using abbreviations, especially in clinical patient notes, can save time and space, protect sensitive information, and help avoid repetitions. However, most abbreviations might have multiple senses, and the lack of a standardized mapping system makes disambiguating abbreviations a difficult and time-consuming task.

The purpose of this review was to identify the effectiveness of environmental control (EC) non-pharmaceutical interventions (NPIs) in reducing transmission of SARS-CoV-2 through conducting a systematic review. EC NPIs considered in this review are room ventilation, air filtration/cleaning, room occupancy, surface disinfection, barrier devices, [Formula: see text] monitoring and one-way-systems. Systematic searches of databases from Web of Science, Medline, EMBASE, preprint servers MedRxiv and BioRxiv were conducted in order to identify studies reported between 1 January 2020 and 1 December 2022.

Article Synopsis
  • The 2022 mpox outbreak highlighted the importance of this previously overlooked pathogen, which has been endemic in some regions for decades before the global epidemic.
  • This review summarizes the history of mpox, detailing its initial zoonotic infections in Africa in the 1970s, the increasing frequency of outbreaks, and the shift towards human-to-human transmission, especially linked to sexual contact.
  • The changing nature of mpox's epidemiology underlines the need for further research into its transmission and the development of effective prevention and treatment strategies, while also calling for stronger outbreak response systems in endemic areas.
