We have reported that upon visible light irradiation, ferrocene-porphyrin-[60]fullerene triad molecules yield long-lived charge-separated states, enabling the control of the plasma membrane potential ( ) in living cells. These previous studies indicated that the localization of the triad molecules in a specific intra-membrane orientation and the suppression of the photodynamic actions of the [60]fullerene (C) moiety are likely important to achieve fast and safe control of , respectively. In this study, by mimicking our previous system of triad molecules and living cells, we report a simplified model system with a cationic C derivative (catC) and a liposome with embedded 1-pyrenebutyric acid (PyBA) to demonstrate that the addition of PyBA was important to achieve fast and safer control of .

Article Synopsis
  • - The case report discusses an 18-year-old female with Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser (MRKH) syndrome, a condition that leads to the absence of a normal vagina and uterus, causing primary amenorrhea.
  • - MRI findings indicated vaginal agenesis, a left hemiuterus, and cervical agenesis, but both ovaries were healthy.

MicroRNA is associated with angiogenesis, invasion, proliferation, and vascular endothelial remodeling of various diseases. We aimed to investigate serum MicroRNA (miRNA) levels in preeclampsia (PE) and to determine whether any changes in miRNA levels are useful in predicting early onset preeclampsia (EOPE) and adverse perinatal outcomes. A total of 89 pregnant patients were enrolled in this prospective case-control study (55 PE and 34 healthy controls).

Article Synopsis
  • This study examines the relationship between fetal clavicle length and gestational age in pregnant women between 14 and 27 weeks.
  • Measurements of various fetal dimensions, like clavicle length and abdominal circumference, were taken through ultrasound and showed strong correlations with gestational age.
  • The findings indicate a significant positive correlation between clavicle length and gestational week, suggesting a rule where 1 mm of clavicle length corresponds to 1 week of gestation, particularly useful for certain patient conditions.

Objectives: To understand the effect of 50-g oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) on fetal celiac artery and superior mesenteric artery (SMA) Doppler parameters.

Methods: A total of 43 healthy pregnant women followed in our hospital were included in the study. All Doppler parameters of the celiac artery and SMA (peak systolic velocity (PSV); pulsatility index (PI); resistance index (RI); systolic/diastolic ratio (SD); time average maximum velocity (TAMAX)) were obtained by ultrasonography before and 1 h after OGTT.

Background: The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of trimethylamine (TMA) and trimethylamine-n-oxide (TMAO) on the contractility of human umbilical artery and the possible mechanisms involved.

Methods: Vasoactive responses to TMA and TMAO on human umbilical artery rings were measured in isolated organ baths. Cumulative dose-response curves for TMA and TMAO were obtained before and after incubation with atropine, yohimbine, prazosin, indomethacin, verapamil, and Ca -free Krebs-Henselite solution.

The molecular pathways involved in the development of vulvar squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) cancer are not completely known. Nicotinamide N-methyltransferase (NNMT) is a cytosolic enzyme associated with tumorigenesis and metastasis in a variety of cancers. Its role in vulvar cancer has not been studied, previously.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to assess the incidence of unexpected leiomyosarcoma (LMS) in patients who had surgery for leiomyomas in Konya province, finding an incidence rate of 0.56% (1 in 176 surgeries), which is higher than reported in existing literature.
  • The researchers analyzed surgery data from eight hospitals between January 2012 and January 2019, discovering 21 cases of unexpected LMS out of 3703 patients, alongside 6 other malignant tumors in the cohort.
  • Given the higher incidence of LMS and ongoing debates around surgical procedures, it emphasizes the need for improved preoperative detection methods to better manage patient care and calls for further studies into tumor biology for accurate diagnosis.

Background: In this study, we investigated the effect of calcium and vitamin D (Ca/Vit D) supplementation on the clinical, hormonal, and metabolic profile of patients with low vitamin D levels. In addition, we investigated the effect of Ca/Vit D supplementation on asymmetric dimethylarginine (ADMA) level in patients with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).

Methods: In total, 75 patients aged 19-35 years, with a normal body mass index and a diagnosis of PCOS and Vit D deficiency/insufficiency, were included in the study.

Objectives: As a result of the integration of molecular changes into the histological classification of cancers, which increases diagnostic repeatability, the differences between the groups become more prominent and targeted therapies gain significance. The most comprehensive molecular study regarding endometrial carcinomas (EC) is The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) project. According to TCGA, endometrial carcinomas are classified into four molecular prognostic subgroups: copy-number-low/p53-wild-type (p53wt), DNA polymerase epsilon (POLE)-mutated/ultramutated (POLEmt), microsatellite-instability/hypermutated (MSI), and copy-number-high/p53-mutated (p53mt).

Article Synopsis
  • - This study evaluated how effective the sentinel lymph node (SLN) mapping method is in diagnosing high-risk endometrial cancer in 244 patients with specific tumor types and characteristics.
  • - Results showed that 91% of patients had at least one SLN detected, with high sensitivity (81.8%) and low false-negative rates (18.2%), which improved significantly with the SLN algorithm applied.
  • - The findings suggest that the SLN mapping approach is highly accurate for detecting metastases, particularly in high-grade tumors, but further long-term studies are needed before it can be widely adopted as standard care.

This study presents the preparation of a novel tetra-substituted phthalonitrile (1), namely, 3,6-bis(hexyloxy)-4,5-bis(4-(trifluoromethoxy)phenoxy)phthalonitrile (1) and its metal-free (2)/metal {M = Zn (3), Cu (4), Co (5), Lu(CHCOO) (6), Lu (7)} phthalocyanines. A series of various spectroscopic methods (UV-vis, FT-IR, mass, and H NMR spectroscopy) were performed for the characterization of the newly synthesized compounds. The potential of compounds 2, 3, and 6 as photosensitizing materials for photodynamic and sonophotodynamic therapies was evaluated by photophysical, photochemical, and sonochemical methods.
