  • The study investigates how the Apoϵ gene, particularly the ϵ4 allele, interacts with cardio-metabolic and social risk factors in relation to cognitive impairment in Bogotá's elderly population.
  • It analyzed 1,263 participants over 50 years old, categorizing them into groups based on their cognitive status and Apoϵ allele presence.
  • Results indicated that while lower education, high blood pressure, and older age were associated with dementia, the ϵ4 allele mainly affected diabetic individuals with dementia, who tended to score lower on cognitive tests.
